Then the fumbled snap...

KF kept us in it against an obviously more talented opponent. No excuses for 55 yards but we still had a chance to win this game.

Wisconsin is Iowa but better. We need to take some hints of the way they do things in their run game. I'm no o-line guru, but their motion get numbers advantages better than us and they pull in creative ways. Why aren't we doing that?

#1 priority is winning the point of attack at the LOS and we got work to do on that front.

I've been avoiding committing to memory the exact #. The O-Line looked completely lost and unprepared against the 3-4. We need to spend more time on it.

Yes. Need to figure out how to keep OL healthy. DL is on a good path with many good players, but need some to become monsters. Win the LOS, win more games.

Didn’t see much of second half. Did we really just miss on long pass to Fant right before the fumble?

They have picked it up anyway, and obviously wasn’t the difference in game, but offsides on their first 3rd down play was huge. Maybe without that the field position isn’t so terrible the entire first half?

Wisconsin did not show a "Bend But Not Break" defense. They plainly stopped us, period! Like a brick wall stopped us!

Kirk did not keep us in it, Phil Parker and the defense (with a great effort by Jackson) did.

This, the defense was the only thing yesterday that came to play. Yes we gave up 30+ points but thats because the defense wore down late in the game. I just don't understand this coaching staff, we attack downfield and shred a more talented OSU defense but we can even muster 3 points against Wisky. We looked totally out coached again, the route combo's reminded me of Greg davis, flood one side of the field with 3 guys all within 10 yards of each other thus drawing all the d backs to that area. I get that this is Brian's first year but come on make some adjustments or take some chances. I'd rather go down swinging and fighting than just trying to keep it close and hope the other team makes more mistakes.

I felt good about things when we got the ball back late in the 3rd only down 17-14. Felt like we had a chance if we could just get a few 1st downs to get the offense some confidence and put Wiscy on its heels. But the fumbled snap that went for a Wiscy TD killed it all right there.

Field position (PUNT RETURN NOT FAIR CATCHING) and WR drops didn't allow for that kind of play. We got outtoughed in the trenches and our OL doesn't know how to block a 3-4.

We never had a chance to win this game, unless Wisconsin was going to keep throwing interceptions for Joshua Jackson to run back. Offense was terrible. Special teams were terrible. Defense was asked to do too much and they couldn't do it.
The team was totally unprepared, and that's on the coaches. All of them.

Um, it was Josh Jackson who kept Iowa in the game, not Kirk Ferentz. Besides, a 3-point lead was as good as a 100 point lead against Iowa's offense. The only shot Iowa had in the second half was to get it's D on the field as much as possible and hope that Jackson could pull off a hat trick of 3 pick-sixes.

Wrong Iowa was never in this game EVEr

Everything, good or bad, starts at the top.

Including punt returns. What an effing debacle that has been all year. Figure it out.

So Kirk’s defense was the reason Iowa was in the game until late into the 3rd quarter, but it wasn’t Kirk’s offense and special teams that was holding Iowa back until then? I’m confused.

Kirk gets credit for the defense, but you look the other way and blame the players/execution when it comes to snapping the football. No wonder Kirk has a lifetime contract. He can do no wrong with some of you. All credit and no blame.

It starts at the top? Kirk is the reason Iowa was blown out and the offense was blanked with 66 yards. That I agree with.

It starts at the top, remember? Who taught Vandeberg not to fair catch punts? Who is ultimately responsible for WR drops? Who is responsible for such an awful offensive game plan?

Fair catch? Heck, I wish he would fair catch those that roll 20 yds to the 5yd line...effectively neutering the O, with an Iowa punter waiting his turn....the D has done all could be asked of them this year

If you guys don't think we were ever in the game down 3 points midway through the 3rd, I don't know what to tell you. KF is a master of winning ugly. We could have won that game with any sort of field position or swagger from our offense. O-Line got blown up. PR sucked. Start there.

Wisconsin's QB also had a noodle arm. It wasn't inconceivable that Jackson or another one of our safeties made a play some some of those wounded ducks. Imagine if Stanley was running that offense... That's something this squad can make into a reality if they modernize the blocking schemes and movement prior to the snap like the Alvarez tree and Dantonio have implemented to great effect.

Motion into Power I. Go unbalanced at the line. Use linemen as TEs. Run out of shotgun. Butler and Wadley in split backs. Use the fullback. We need to whatever it takes to find some sort of edge in the running game. If we can't run the ball, there is something fundamentally wrong with the way we do things around here.

Stanley can deal out of the 4/5 wide shotgun set. How about we get a line that can pass protect and 4 WRs that can fill those spot. Yeah, that'd be great.

There's something too old school about how our line does things against athletic defenses. Those that can take away the outside zone with speed run blizes always give our offense troubles.

tl;dr - That's football and Iowa needs to get better at it.
