The fall of college basketball

Nothing can be done. Lawyers looked into from the schools perspective and realized any attempt to limit a kids income while in college loses in court 100% of the time.

Be like trying to say a kid can only make so much money while going to Iowa and working at McDonald’s. The fact that the kid plays a sport and makes a lot of money is irrelevant in the eyes of laws.

Zero chance NIL goes away. Zero. The reason nobody has tried to limit it is because any attempt would be laughed out of court.
Agreed, it’s not going away, but I think (hope) some reasonable guardrails can be placed on it so that overall fan interest doesn’t crater.

I love an underdog and those days are over now. It is impossible for most teams to rise past a certain level. Iowa can never rise to the top.

The competition is who can dump the most money.
Possibly, altho my hope is that McCollum’s disciplined style of play may allow Iowa to out-perform their NIL $ roster. 😜

D2 isn’t much better. My friend’s son plays D2. Last year the majority of their roster transferred from 1 school to another D2. Following this season, only 4 players remain from the second school, the rest are in the portal.
That’s too bad.

I love seeing the best teams go at it. This is the most I have been interested in decades.

I understand the other side. It's just not for me.

Especially since a low seed has made it to championship games 5 times total. Villanova and UConn wining as 8 and 7 seeds 30 years apart. it's not like it happens all the time. That's a myth.
Yes, but there often are somewhat lower seeds making it to Sweet 16 and/or Great 8…this won’t occur as much in future.

Lol. You as an Iowa should know a very good coach matters and they cost money.
Yes you need both at a major school but I would pick money over a coach.

At a midmajor I wouldn’t even try to retain a coach. Any xtra cash I would use for portal players from DII.
