$30M Buyout for Kirk Ferentz. He is signed through the 2029 season

If fans quit going to games.......As soon as the athletic department starts losing their asses in revenue, maybe something will change.
Every single person who shows up to a game is a KF enabler.

Yes I realize the tickets are largely already purchased but empty stands would make a difference in his firing.

They should offer him half his buyout and tell him if he doesn't take it he will be moved from coach to mascot.

He won’t get bought out or fired. He may retire but I bet he wants the most wins record. 6-6 or 7-5 is my guess this year. Michigan is a less than a year removed from a NC win, they have same record as us. The world isn’t ending, sky not falling, but unfortunately things won’t change until after next season IMO.

The Swarm CEO keeps all of the big dollar deals confidential but the numbers came out similar to how they came out when Proctor ripped us off
Any yet "numbers come out" and people keep saying "so an so gets all this money". Lets see the list, or people should stop saying that. Some guy posted yesterday about all the money that Xman is getting. Based on what? I mean if guys are going to keep posting that, then lets have some credible info to back that up. Not just, "oh I know that Jones is getting paid".

Only way to get rid of him is if he retires early. No way we fire/buyout his contract. He'll end it on his terms and there's nothing we can do about it.

I wish people would stop complaining about this. We are stuck with him and thats the end of it.

As long as we keep buying season tickets, $10 nachos and overpriced jerseys, the administration has no reason to listen to us or change.

Fans could keep buying their season ticket to keep their seats. They can even continue to tailgate before, during, and after the game to keep in contact with their friends...BUT the stands should be empty.

How would you change the structure?
Give the leverage to the athletic department instead of the coach. With these contracts, there is no accountability. The coach wins, and wins big, no matter what. Who would object to being paid $30 million or more NOT to work because you were bad at your job? LOL

I have to believe your tactic has been tried before. My guess is that the athletic departments are raking in so much cash that the structure is similar for a reason and why most contacts are like that.

Enough people absolutely adore the status quo in this state that nothing will ever change. Iowa homers will never stop flooding the stands and grounds in and around Kinnick. The worst thing is they're totally conscious of the situation. Everyone gives themselves a pass when it comes to withholding money & support, but expect everyone else to withhold money & support.

Barta was a major f#$k up AD when it really counted in dealing with the two most important coaching decisions. Add to that his general incompetence as an administrator that was put on display in public lawsuits.
Thankfully his replacement has demonstrated none of the same shortcomings. She should get a fair amount of leeway in dealing with the ongoing fallout from his terrible decisions.

TV money is 4-5x ticket revenue. It would take a big drop off in attendance to make a financial dent. That ain't gonna happen...IOWA fans love their Hawks.

The math:

On Oct 5, 2023, as you can see below, Kirk's buyout was $37M.

Based on his $7M annual salary, with it being one year later, I am guessing the buyout is roughly $30M.

Buyout amounts on Oct 5, 2023:
  • 1. James Franklin, Penn State (No. 4 overall): $64.67 million
  • 2. Matt Rhule, Nebraska (No. 6 overall): $62.06 million
  • 3. Ryan Day, Ohio State (No. 9 overall): $46.22 million
  • 4. Dan Lanning, Oregon (No. 11 overall): $44.33 million
  • 5. Luke Fickell, Wisconsin (No. 13 overall): $39.68 million
  • 6. Kirk Ferentz, Iowa (No. 14 overall): $37 million
  • 7. Bret Bielema, Illinois (No. 15 overall): $35.75 million
  • 8. Jim Harbaugh, Michigan (No. 21 overall): $27.24 million
  • 9. P.J. Fleck, Minnesota (No. 24 overall): $23.73 million
  • 10. Kalen DeBoer, Washington (No. 25 overall): $23.2 million
  • 11. Tom Allen, Indiana (No. 28 overall): $20.4 million
  • 12. Mike Locksley, Maryland (No. 34 overall): $16.55 million
  • 13. Greg Schiano, Rutgers (No. 40 overall): $13.07 million
  • 14. Ryan Walters, Purdue (No. 44 overall): $12.63 million
  • 15. Chip Kelly, UCLA (No. 48 overall): $8.79 million

At least we're not Nebraska. Poor bastards. 62 million to send him packing.

F'ing Barta.
At the very least, no more extensions for KF, Beth! Things could get interesting soon as Kirk's contract will soon be in that 5-year window that needs to be maintained for recruiting purposes. Perhaps Beth has already told Kirk there will be no more extensions. He's in the 'twilight window' of his time as HC at Iowa.

Kirk would be 74 in 2029 (God willing), so age discrimination is not even an issue. Please refer to how poorly things ended for Strom Thurmond, Diane Feinstein, Joe Biden, Chuck Grassley (a bone for the libs on this site), JoPa, Bobby Bowden, Trump (naturally), J. Edgar Hoover, Nancy Pelosi and others who have overstayed their welcome over the years.

Unfortunately he has stated many times how much he enjoys coming to the Football Building every day.

And I think Mary likes having him out of the house, too.

And if you are married, you'll find out that that is true with your wife also.
I've had to explain that to so many of my friends who have retired and the reason why the wife will volunteer
somewhere to get away from them for some time in the day.

My guess is that he will make the University pay every cent of that money. Especially with the way Brian’s departure went. Before, he may have cut a deal but I have to believe Kirk has almost zero love for Beth Goetz.
IF this turns out like this KF has transformed into a real POS. F him. Poor Kirk, Beth did her job, unlike Barta.
