Since when does Kirk put in the backup quarterback unless the starter is injured?

The problem is after weeks of us wondering what the backup can do, once he finally gets in (like in November) we get are answer as to why.

All I ever see is the Offense being successful when Sully is in, but I’m no QB guru like KF.
