I assume this is supposed to be a counter post in response the guns and children post. Tain't funny. And I say, babies and tots were killed by getting caught between the side slats on cribs. Regulations now say that the slats must be close enough so that the babies can't get their heads between them.Clearly we need better pool and spa regulations. Think of the children.

Pool regulations are continually updated in an attempt to reduce deaths like those. So...I don't think you've made the point you think you have.
You're doing it wrongOr parents could just not be dumb F's and leave their kids around unlocked guns and unsupervised pools.

They'll regulate my pool after they pry my cold dead hands from the hand rail.
They already regulate your pool. Ignore those regs as you wish. My 2 year-old nephew drowned in his aunt's pool...pulled out blue...no heartbeat. I was the one who got to do CPR on him thinking the whole time that if he died it was my fault. Got him breathing again after maybe two minutes that felt like two hours. First responders got there a few minutes later and took him...I crawled off and cried like a baby. Nightmares for years about that.
Their gate wasn't up to code and he had figured out how to open it from the outside. He's a junior in high school now and has no memory of it.
I don't think he does. A pool is not designed to be fatal when used properly. A gun does kill when properly used. Imagine if guns were regulated as tightly as pools are.Pool regulations are continually updated in an attempt to reduce deaths like those. So...I don't think you've made the point you think you have.
Yep. Public pools are registered with the state, licensed, inspected, accidents must be reported, regulations are reviewed and revised routinely to improve safety.
Guns...not so much.
The only things my guns have ever killed are clay pigeons and paper targets. I guess I'm not using them properly.I don't think he does. A pool is not designed to be fatal when used properly. A gun does kill when properly used. Imagine if guns were regulated as tightly as pools are.
I don't know what's worse, a post this dumb, or idiot Ciggy liking all of them.I don't think he does. A pool is not designed to be fatal when used properly. A gun does kill when properly used. Imagine if guns were regulated as tightly as pools are.

Pffft. Pools have all kinds of regulations as to how they are used. Cities or counties have say over how you build them, even on private property. If it's for public use it is periodically inspected.I don't know what's worse, a post this dumb, or idiot Ciggy liking all of them.
Anyone who really thinks guns are less regulated than pools shouldn't go near either. Do yourself a favor and get yourself copies of the state and federal gun regulation books and study up before making further comments. Each are hundreds of pages long so it will take to awhile.
First, it's not a lie. I'm not a hunter, so my guns have never been used to kill any animals. I have a 12 gauge shotgun for skeet shooting and a .22-cal rifle for target practice. Never killed anything with either of them. You aren't because guns were meant to kill, period. You can't make some weak argument (that's probably a lie as I'm sure it's killed animals at least) about what you do personally and apply it to the whole country.
You own a pool? If you do Trad, you understand there are regulations in place....Plus...there are INSURANCE COMPANIES!Clearly we need better pool and spa regulations. Think of the children.

and the property owners whose gate was "not up to code"????? Come on Ned...I think you're just being intentionally obtuse here.....Sounds like the parents don't watch their 2 year old like they should.
Glad the child made it but clearly the parents were negligent in watching their child.
For some people that's the point. For others, like myself, the point is recreation. I enjoy target shooting for sport and it has absolutely nothing to do with preparing to hunt. My daughters enjoy shooting with me and they've never hunted. I would be surprised if they ever do. My father owns several guns and we often go target shooting together. I don't recall him ever hunting in my lifetime. If he ever did, it was probably close to 50 years ago.Do you realize what the point of target and skeet shooting is? It's practice for killing things more effectively.
I have guns and hunt. But, I don't lie to myself about what their ultimate purpose is.
And so do we but a 2 year old should never ever be unescorted in an environment where a pool or spa comes into play.and the property owners whose gate was "not up to code"????? Come on Ned...I think you're just being intentionally obtuse here.....
If you own an "attractive nuisance" you have an obligation to make it as safe from uninvited guests as possible. 6' privacy fences and gates with lock mechanisms are pretty standard pieces of equipment for pools. Ask any insurance company......Owners have an obligation to make sure these barriers are workable ALL the time. I spend a good part of a day a year making sure mine are working as designed.
2 year olds play in the back yard..unattended......2 year olds are curious and like to explore. 2 year olds don't always tell mom or dad where they are going, they just go. A gate that locks correctly would probably stop most two year olds. Hell, mine stops 42 year olds. And so do we but a 2 year old should never ever be unescorted in an environment where a pool or spa comes into play.
Please tell my your joking about leaving any two year old outside unattended?2 year olds play in the back yard..unattended......2 year olds are curious and like to explore. 2 year olds don't always tell mom or dad where they are going, they just go. In a backyard that's enclosed and "safe", all the time. For extended periods of time..probably not. My situation now is different because I have a swimming pool. Please tell my your joking about leaving any two year old outside unattended?
Some helpful gifs of pools
What's your definition of an "extended period of time"? Two-year-olds put almost everything they can grab into their mouths. You leave a two-year-old outside unattended for anything more than a few seconds and you're tempting fate. Even in an enclosed and "safe" yard. They could choke on a rock in less time than it takes you to grab a beer out of the fridge. In a backyard that's enclosed and "safe", all the time. For extended periods of time..probably not. My situation now is different because I have a swimming pool.
that was a terrible analogy. There is zero equivalence between the two.
