4 out of 5 PSU Starters Enter Transfer Portal

I'm not sure any of those players are good enough to supplant what we currently have on the team. They don't have a huge defensive center. Their guards don't appear to be a improvement over Joe T or Ulis.

I wouldn't be to concerned at this time. Penn States new coach has an extremely decorated coaching resume, from some impressive coaching mentors. He might coaxes some of them back into the fold before it's all done.

It's really a shame that they don't at least give the new coach the curtesy of an interview before bailing, by all accounts he has the experience to turn Penn St around. If Matt Painter and Brad Stevens had him on their staffs that's could mean he's pretty well respected...

Sooo I'm guessing it has nothing to do with the new coach.

I know who I am picking to finish last in the Big Ten.

We get to play them 2x next year as well. So I'm guessing the new hire isn't going over too well..... I wouldn't be surprised to see the same thing happen in Ames. Guys jump off the sinking ship.

If you enter the transfer portal are you part of the school anymore? If not, they won't have access to the facilities, weight room, nutrition, etc.

I would hope this would be accurate because then half of the kids would do it every year.

Am I just being an old man or is loyalty not valued? I understand in a situation like this if they have talked with the coach and realize it won't be a good fit but when you commit to something you are committed to more than a coach.

I'm an old man too, but I'm not a "get off my lawn" guy.

I think loyalty is less of a factor, but not a non-factor. When you and I were growing up, loyalty was very important because we likely didn't have the same kinds of opportunities as these kids. I had a good job, and I hung on to it for dear life - because I didn't have a ton of other opportunities. Maybe I thought I was being "loyal", but I was probably just being a non-risk taker.

Loyalty is usually provided as it is received. Schools will recruit over guys to make the team better (I have no problem with it), and players will look for a better opportunity when it is presented (I have no problem with that either).

Entering the transfer portal indicates you are willing to transfer. You aren't kicked out of school. I suppose a coach could say if you enter the portal you are no longer part of the team.

Daivyon Nixon and Caleb Shudak were both in the portal at one time. Nixon was at Iowa for 3 year and will be drafted this year. Shudak stayed and is likely to be the kicker this year.

Just my guess, but I would think they really liked the interim coach that took over and wanted to see him kept on permanently. All of these guys didn't abandon ship when Chambers got let go suddenly. They bought into the interim guy, he didn't get their job so they are exercising their options to leave.

Well, in fairness, they really didn't have an opportunity to jump ship did they? He "left" (fired) in late October.

While loyalty has never really been a virtue common to our species one might find it to be an endangered species in the world of 2021.

I do not remember their center, maybe a bad thing, but we need another very big boy next year.

Well, I'm normally wrong, but I looked it up. October 21st.

so it’s quite possible all 6 already had plans to move on once the season ended no matter what.

unlike a guy on our team, they didn’t tweet about it to cause distractions. They waited as they should have.

I said I was an old man but I am only 35. You are right in the things you said though.

True. Would have been difficult then. I thought Chambers got axed at start of school, but I am often wrong.

But you are right about their devotion to Ferry. They wanted the interim tag removed and the job given to him. You would think the student athletes would have had at least some input into the decision, but at PSU, I guess not.

6 players total for PSU. I doubt Fran has any interest since they are a conference team. If JW doesn't come back and assuming Jones, Wheeler or Lundy are still available, might be interesting as all 3 have some offensive skills. Given how bad Boston College is, they could take all of them. Harrar is a beast and will be on ( I bet) another big ten teams' roster. Who doesn't need a guy built like that who loves to play D and rebound?
  • Myreon Jones
  • John Harrar
  • Jamari Wheeler
  • Izaiah Brockington
  • Trent Buttrick
  • Seth Lundy

From what I understand they're all very upset with the handling and firing of Pat Chambers.
