The San Francisco 49ers' Eric Reid and Reuben Foster expressed their disappointment Sunday with fans' reaction to quarterback C.J. Beathard's injury, which led to to Jimmy Garoppolo's debut with the team.

Beathard suffered a left leg injury with 1 minute, 7 seconds remaining in Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks during a big hit as he attempted a pass, forcing him to depart. Some fans, realizing that Garoppolo was about to enter the game, began cheering while the rookie quarterback was still down on the field.

"Our starting quarterback got hurt, and people are cheering before he even stands up, and that pisses me off, so I'm disappointed in our fans," Reid said
following the 49ers' 24-13 loss. "I understand the excitement about Jimmy, he's a great player, but that's not right."

Beathard walked to the podium for his postgame news conference with a slight limp and will undergo an MRI on Monday. Beathard also said he felt pain in his hip. Coach Kyle Shanahan said the optimistic hope is that it was just a bruise.

"It's disappointing that when a man is hurt -- people don't understand what we go through as football players. And what our bodies go through. And he's laying down on the ground and people are cheering. That's messed up," Reid, a veteran safety who has also played linebacker this season, said.

Foster, the 49ers' first-round pick this season, echoed Reid's sentiment and said he was rooting for Garoppolo too -- but not until he was sure Beathard was OK.

"I was disappointed in them when they were cheering," Foster said. "Our fans are better than that. It's a fact that our starting quarterback is down, who's been making plays and really taking his body into a lot of things that a quarterback shouldn't be getting into ...

"You would think someone would see that and say, 'I love the quarterback.' Jimmy, great guy, I'm happy he was out on the field. I was rooting for him too, but at the same time, I have to wait and make sure my brother on the ground is [OK] before I cheer for Jimmy. I'm going to cheer for my brother when he gets off the ground because he's all right. And then I'm going to cheer for Jimmy."

While I understand why on the surface it's low class, but I doubt the fans in the stands wanted CJ to get hurt. They were merely excited to see JG hit the field.

And wait till they find out that JG is a product of the system. Matt Cassel was 11-4 when Brady was out with an injury, and it got him a nice deal as well. Now he'S just another journeyman backup QB. If the Pats thought JG was the next coming, would they really have left him go? We'll see I guess.

It could certainly be taken that they were enthused about getting to see the guy that the team traded for, and not because CJ was injured. Agree, though, that it could have waited till he left the field.
The reality for CJ is that it would have taken some kind of miracle for him to continue to get the starting nod. He would needed to have a vastly improved o-line, at a minimum, to allow him to have achieved enough success to keep the starting job.
Once they traded for Garopolo, the die was cast.
Hope that CJ can catch on with some team as a long term back up, make a nice salary for the next several years, take no punishment, and leave the league with a sizeable bank account at his disposable.

No way was anyone cheering for CJs injury.
Cmon now. Not even smug SFers.
Just bad timing.
That fanbase appreciates the hell out of CJs toughness.

That said, I sure hope Jimmy gets hammered when he starts.

While your scenario would be one i'd take in a nano-second, i'm guessing the competitor in him would rather play and take his lumps.
I have always hated the Niners and hope he can find a better place that works out for him. I simply had to shake my head when on one play he made the play-action fake to the back and was immediately swarmed and sacked. The only players that should be forced in to that situation are Notre Dame players.

CJ should stick it out where he is. There's no guarantee that Garopolo is going to do well, and worst case he's the backup there and can collect his millions holding the clipboard there. He's probably shown enough to get a look from other teams if he leaves though. Good luck to him and his young family.

No doubt that he would want to play no matter where he goes. I'm not saying there's no chance either. Just look at Keenum with the vikes this year to see that a journeyman can break out.
Obviously management like him enough with SF to take him as high as they did. Maybe they want to keep him on as a long term back up.

One cannot assume JG sticks with SF. He's going to be asking for market starter money. SF would be stupid to pay it.

JG has earned what I would call Tyrod Taylor money at the very most...maybe a 1-2 year contract at $10-12M. And for all we know, maybe Shanahan winds up believing CJ as far as roster guys is the better choice, then go with another kid in the draft.

SF has serious o-line issues. No matter who is back there, they're gonna get killed. So until they get the line fixed up, they're probably going to need more than 1 guy with a pulse anyway. And given that, sinking a whole lot of money into one guy doesn't make sense given how many other needs they have.

The only ways CJ is in a bad situation is if a) they don't address the line, or b) if they give another guy big time bonus money.

I just don't see "b" happening given they need more of everything, not just a rubber stamp "he's our QB the next 5 years" guy.

All these pro players need to realize that a majority of the of the fan base sees them as nothing more than a piece of meat,... Names to be forgotten as soon as they leave the sport.

There was a little bit of confusion on that article. From what I heard the crowd was cheering when Jimmy G started to warm up, and the crowd also cheered when CJ got up and walked off.

I can’t wait for the 49ers to trade CJ plus a 4th rounder to Washington in exchange for Kirk Cousins!!!

Really? It sounds like something a bunch of the dbags on this site would do. I don't think many of them are from Cali.
I'm saying it's a California thing with their sports in general.

Their fans are notorious for their behavior in the stands. Doesn't matter the team.

And yes I know scuffles and arguments happen anywhere......it's just more noticeably frequent over there.
