Advance estimates of U.S. retail and food services sales for October, an increase of 0.4 percent compared to the previous month, and up 2.8 percent year over year, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Restaurant and food-services sales, a traditional barometer of Americans’ economic confidence, were up 4.3 percent compared to October 2023.

I found this stat interesting, are you eating more than last year?

But I heard our economy was a disaster!

I got my 13 pound JennieO Turkey at Winn Dixie for $5.33.
For everything else to make Thanksgiving dinner I spent $140.00. 🦃.

I have the same problem. Feels like we are feeding a platoon.

You ain't kidding. My monthly grocery bill would make some peoples head spin. It's absurd. My 14 year old loads up his backpack with snacks on his way out the door every morning to get him through the day.

I gave up. But I'm thinking back to when I was a kid....I never raided someone's pantry of food without asking first. It is open house here b/c wife doesn't put limits on anything and I'm an asshole if I say anything about it.

Across the road from my store there is a Chimney Rock Inn. Not the greatest food, but the environment is pleasant enough. Price wasn’t horrible last time I went.

Either way, that place is and has been packed almost every night for the last few years. Parking lot constantly full. Mind you, I live in an affluent area. Yet I can’t help but wonder how many of the folks eating there are complaining about prices.

Restaurants are jam packed nightly and the lines at the grocery stores have been long enough that I’ve taken to food delivery and curbside only this past few months. My 17 year old lives with me, and we’re going thru 4 gallons of milk weekly. He’s jumped up to 185# from 169# his sophomore year last fall.

There is a big difference between a family raising children with
their grocery bills and retired couples eating out at restaurants.

Bottom Line: Retirees are a big part of a restaurant's regular
customers. They have money to spend as empty nesters.

I'd say about the same but always more than we should. The older the kids get and the more all of our schedules change, it just becomes easier to grab something. It is expensive. Just the other day I got 2 bowls and a burrito for my kids and Pancheros. $45 without tip. WTF. I guess I asked they get paid a living wage, so I shouldn't bitch but my goodness. Don't even get me started on if we're out and we get a drink with dinner.

I logged into my 401k because I haven't for a year and my return was like 23% for 2024. That is f'ing awesome!
Me, too.

I have a high risk tolerance with my Roth because I don't plan on ever touching it...going to my girls...large cap growth funds up between 25-27%.
That's on top of last year's 30% gains.

Life is good.
Thanks, Biden.

You are doing better than me. But folks don't see me on here bitching about the economy. I'm happy for you

I've been putting on average around 15% of every paycheck (24 a year) into my 401k for about 20 years. I've been lucky, maxed it out a few times and have a good amount at 42. Hopefully it can continue that pace! I think I averaged around 7-10% most years.

That’s cause you’re a beta, I’ll send you a MAGA hat, wife’ll respect you a bit more, give you your pants back, and let you run the household again. You can thank me later.

Give it a few years and you go for that bottle of your whiskey-of-choice and find it almost empty, you'll wish it was just granola bars when that happens

Mine went from 190 to 227 but tore his ACL and has lost weight now.

The supermodel wife and I were talking the other day at how funny, awesome, and pathetic (all at the same time) it is that probably 50-60 percent of all new retail space in Tallahassee built / being built last 3-4 years is for food and beverage in some form.
