So Sibley and Crowl are both visiting in two weeks. With Ulis committed and hopefully Foster, is the hope to get at least one of these young men to commit? Foster visits two weeks later for the Penn State game.

Thought Crowl was a lock for Wiscy but not so fast my friends. Hawks may have a shot at him. The Sibley visit is a big surprise, we have never had much success recruiting Milwaukee. He is a tremendous athlete, reminds me a lot of a smaller version of Cook.

Early signing period is coming up quickly.

Yep, I would be happy with any of those guys. Add one of them to a class that includes Ulis and Foster and we would have a really good class.

Hmmmm....that is worrisome to me. Hopefully it means nothing but I could see that it means he feels very comfortable there.

This is true...he pretty much lives there on the weekends with her. He's gotten really close to the players and staff there so thay have a great shot at getting him.

Personally, I like the others mentioned in this thread more than Foster at this point. I want Fran to get him just so we don't have to listen to people complain about "missing" on him, but from a basketball standpoint I won't be disappointed at all.

In reality how good is Foster?
Foster’s very skilled. He looks very comfortable shooting from the outside. His rebounding and shot blocking numbers have been impressive. His rating has slipped a bit from 5* to 4* (.9774 at 247). But that’s still pretty darned high. Patrick McCaffery’s rating is a .9671 4*, very close to Jamari Sibley’s .9637.

At this time Foster is not a good shooter. Less than 30% from 3 and about 50% from the FT line.

All the ranking mean nothing punch of guys who have never played saying who can play. I’m asking how good is he? Is he tough? Program changer? Better than TC?

I would say at this point he is neither tough nor a program changer. However, having said that, he certainly possesses the physical tools to be both. In the 3 or 4 times I've seen him play in high school he was far too content to roam around the outside on offense and wasn't very aggressive when he did get the ball. Maybe this was by design from the coach, but I highly doubt it. He could come in and be a defensive presence with his shot blocking ability but his unwillingness to work overly hard would put him in position to be in early foul trouble often. When watching him play he doesn't seem like a kid who loves to play basketball (just my opinion). He seems more like a kid who plays because he is tall and happens to be talented at it. Having said all of that, I still hope he chooses the Hawkeyes just due to the optics of him choosing to play somewhere else.

Offensively, don't expect him to be a TC. I actually think, at least early, he'd be a better get on the defensive end. I do think he'd grow into his offense, but he won't show up as a finished offensive player.

A lot of his ratings are based on his projections, athleticism and skills (ball handling, footwork, etc). He just needs to put it all together. I can actually see him being one of those guys who makes a better pro than college player.

I pretty much agree completely.

I would be thrilled with a class of Ulis, Sibley and Crowl. And Sibley is the guy I'm most hopeful for and would be most disappointed if the Hawks didn't get.

This would be a good class. But there are still possibilities out there. Fran met with Andre Jackson and Kerwin Walton just last week.

From the time I heard Foster had a girlfriend at Iowa State, I assumed they were the front runners.

Of course, this could easily work against Iowa State if there's trouble in paradise before he signs on the dotted line.

Athleticism is undeniable. Rebounding and rim protecting is fantastic. Ball handling is good for a seven footer. Shooting is a weak point. Hasn’t been taught how to be physical down low. Seen him a few times now and he should absolutely dominate 3A basketball but he’s allowed to hang out around the 3 pt line instead of owning people down low. That will be a pretty big adjustment.

Not a program changer or a one-and-done like some have claimed in the past. But someone who you still take every time, develop him for three years, and get him to be a solid contributor.

Remember he's played away from the basket because his HS Team had other bigs that played inside. He'll be the man in the middle this year. Kid still has a ton of upside to his offensive development. I want him because he'll be a defensive element we don't have in a bona find rim protector.

Still feel that his game is perfect for Fran and Iowa. He's great in the open court. Can score at each level. Yes he needs to improve his shooting percentages, and better shot selection will help, but also FT's have to get much better. He's got good mechanics, just needs to spend more time working on it. It will come.

Concerned that a high school kid spends every weekend at girlfriends vs the gym. High school kids should be in gym non stop on weekends!

Crowl just committed to Wisconsin, so guessing his visit will be cancelled

Bummer. Missing so far on a few bigs.

Is it a down year for instate talent? Hardly hear of anyone other than Foster and Born.

2020 class is a little down after those two players. 2021 class is loaded in Iowa, I would say 10+ D1 players will come out of that class.

So with Crowl and Murrell out of the picture, it’s down to Foster and Martice Mitchell for bigs. Need to land at least one of those two

As a coach of multiple sports what I hear in most of the eyewitness accounts is, he's got to want it and that is by far the biggest key to athletic success.
Talent is just talent until you bring in desire and will to reach higher for what you want to achieve and unfortunately no one can teach or preach that into someone.

I really don't understand why these young men schedule and not visit. If he knew he was leaning to Wisconsin then commit already.

When he said he would visit I thought we had a chance. On well, next man in.

If this is true, which I doubt, then she must be something, if you know what I mean! Hard to believe the parents would allow that.

Hope the young man isn't makings decisions based on a girlfriend at his age. He is too young, theirs too many fish in the sea, she's too much of a distraction, he needs to keep the eye on the prize (Playing in the NBA). Work hard now and the world's his oyster.

Not sure if this is the case with Crowl and Wisconsin, but often times a coach will tell a recruit they have until a certain date to commit or they have to move on, Wisconsin could’ve gave the ultimatum you Crowl knowing that he had upcoming visits. Again, not sure if that’s the case but definitely could be the reason behind it.

Here’s an angle.

It makes just as much sense for her to transfer to Iowa because of him, as it does for him to pick ISU because of her.

That said. Like a wise college football coach once said. “I’ve been coaching for 30 years, and pu$$y is still undefeated.”

Andre Jackson now taking official visit on 9/27 along with Sibley. A commitment from either of those guys would be huge.
https://www.zagsblog.com/2019/09/18/andre-jackson-has-two-official-visits-coming/

A bit confused, Jackson visited on 10/19/18. I thought they had to wait 12 months before he could take another official visit. Glad he and Sibley are coming at the same time though. Not sure we'll get either but we have a chance if they see Iowa City. Go Hawks!

They can start taking their 5 OV 1 Aug of their Junior year through the end of their Junior year. Then they get 5 more from the day after the end of their Junior year through 15 Oct AFTER the completion of high school.

Andre Jackson eliminates Maryland from consideration. So, it’s Syracuse, UConn, UCLA, Iowa. Says he’s cutting down his list after visit to Iowa on 9/27. So, we’ll know if it’s really possible for him to come to Iowa soon.

Concerning Iowa’s pitch to him, Jackson says:
“Their message has been kind of put the ball in my hands as a freshman,” he said. “Hopefully if I do what I’m supposed to, play in transition and surround me with guys who can help benefit my game. They definitely just want a winning program, so I’m definitely looking forward to that.””

I get the need for a big, but I wouldn't be disappointed if both Jackson and Sibley committed.
