A curious Kirk in-game decision from 2018; like ISU this year

You may remember the 2018 Nebby game at Iowa City. The hawks were really handling them. The hawks were up 28-13, a nice comfortable 2 score lead, they held Nebby and got great field position at the Nebby 45. Wind at their back they struck downfield to 4th and goal from the 3 yard line with 4:10 to go.

I remember at the time thinking, FG gives us 18 point lead with 19 minutes to go. And what does Kirk order up, Kirk who is so conservative. Remember he orders up the fake FG trying to bury them. Nebby had 13 points in almost 3 qtrs and an 18 point lead, a 3 score lead looked great. But the fake failed you remember.

And our defense held and Frost I think did a NEbby fake punt from his own 8 yard line and it worked and that started to nebby comeback. Hawks did win of course.

But I had the same feeling when Kirk went for 2 against ISU this year when taking the extra point means that ISU has to outscore you by 2 TDs in the remaining 18 minutes to win. This logic just baffles me sometimes.

Why? that is all I will ask is Why?

Remember when Kirk decided to take the points down 10-0 this year in the second half when most people think he should have gone for it? Kirk knew the 3-10 score puts more pressure on Nebraska, and he banked that Nebraska would end up Nebraskaing, which they did.

I can’t believe people were bitching about that. Iowa hadn’t done a thing in that game to that point, that made you believe they could line up and get 2 yards. Take the points, put pressure on Nebraska and let Nebraska **** it up later

Yup, A goofy call that Kirk would never make, but Brian might. The good thing, it created another soul stealing win.
