This Wednesday, the French government deplored the ban on entering the United States and then the repression of a French researcher, who came to attend a conference, because he had expressed a "personal opinion" on American research policy. "I learned with concern that a French researcher," on a mission for the CNRS, "who was going to a conference near Houston was banned from entering American territory before being expelled," said Minister of Higher Education and Research Philippe Baptiste in a statement sent to AFP.

This space researcher allegedly underwent a random check on arrival, during which his work computer and personal phone were searched. Messages referring to the treatment of scientists by the Trump administration were found. He was reportedly accused of messages "which reflect hatred towards Trump and can be described as terrorism". His professional and personal equipment was confiscated and the researcher was reportedly sent back to Europe on March 10. According to another source informed of the file, "hateful messages and conspiracy" were the accusations.
