Just wondering why this guy isn't getting a real shot on D? Myself and a group of people I was with watched him every special teams play and was very impressed. Always fired up, actually wanting to pancake the other team. He flattened 3 guys on three separate plays and one time took out two at once. This guy gives 100% effort at all times and could really give Jewell some help. Side to side quickness might not be the best but at least he could help stop the run game

I think many people wonder about this. Could be that he's just a freshman or maybe he's a Nicole Law type. No idea.

Also caught my attention on special teams. Good speed for someone his size and really lays the wood. I assume when backup LBs don't play it's because they don't know their reads and filling gaps in run support.

i think we have a handful of starters that don't know what the hell they're doing in run support.

He will see the field soon.. He's a talent that the coaches can't miss..

Honest question, is he a middle or outside? Real question, can he play outside if he's a middle?
Built like a middle, plays like a middle. Question for me is, how much faster is Bower than him? I think his style could really help shut down the run game cause Jewell cant do it all. At least that would help our D make an offense more one dimensional

Im assuming this kid plays BEHIND Bower. How Bower still is the starter is beyond me. That guy is terrible but yet the staff are such loyalist, it's hard for young players to get a chance. I dont give 2 sh!ts how these guys look in practice, we need to get more athletes on the field. Our defense is one of the slowest in the big 10. Unfortunately KF and Parker dont care, they will run out the same 11 guys week in week out....

This. I just look at Ward who backed up Niemann today and said- really? This is why I asked about him playing an outside. I'm not KF, I'm not at practice so it's hard to evaluate justhe what is seen during games but I feel he has athleticism that is needed on the field. I wonder how many guys that aren't good practice players, but "gamers" never see the field. Not saying that is Jones, just another question.

How about Mends too? How is Bower who is slow, makes virtually no plays (except jumping on the pile 7 yards down the field for a stat tackle) beating both Jones & Mends out? Give me a break!

Can we get Lattimore on the field some too at DT for Bazata? Get some actual speed and athletes out there at all positions and start flying to the ball. No more Johnny underdog good stories who other guys are constantly covering for.

I'm lost on Mends. I thought he was a lock to step up this year. Lattimore also needs some pt. I thought he has the frame to actually contribute. Unfortunately he's not a junior who is a "good guy" so he won't play.

You would think losing to NDSU and NW and giving up 38pts and sucking at both run defense and pash rush would light a fire under Parker to make some changes on defense.

So our top 3 LBs and WRs are basically from Iowa? No wonder we suck. Recruiting failure big time. No offense to JVB but if our best WR is some skinny white kid from Brandon SD that does not bode well and shows the staffs lack of recruiting the position.

Croston is def proving why he was a walk on at LT as well. Wish we would put Myers back there.

Jewell could play any one of the 3 LBers spots at a high level in fact mlb was the last spot they thought he would end up but he was the best they had so he move in there I wish someone would step up. At mlb and Jewell move to OLb he still would be leading tackler on team he had more tackles today than the whole dline added together 6 guys

Kirk is not a gamer either but he was awarded a 10 yr 45 million dollar extension.. Things are just done by a different "code" at Iowa.. U get in KF's good graces and he'll chew on that gum , play hang man on that note pad & let the ship, crash, burn and sink around you.. Just don't Eff up in practice and show good work ethic u don't have to have much talent at all! We've seen this good ole boy favor from the top office right on down to the playing field..

Wallace at LB coach is a joke. He's a sir type of guy and he takes direction from Parker and Parker takes direction from KF. When Reid left for a different job why not go and find a LB coach. Nope we will promote from within so dumb.

And we did not move LeVar Woods who actually played on D, coached the LB's with Reid at one point. Wow!

Other than Jewell, our LBs are terrible. Bower is slow, Niemann out of position. I'd rather see Hockaday back in there. I really think Jones will be there next year. Loved it yesterday when they doubled him on a kick and he layed them both out.

Because Bower is a freakin' film room all star. He can't point out exactly where he needs to be on each play. The problem is that he doesn't have the athletic ability to do it on the field.
