Ol' Doodle's not gonna hyperventilate about this loss. What we have here folks, if we're being honest with ourselves, is yet another typical 7.5-win Iowa team. Not terrible. Not great. Just good enough to make a bowl, and that's about it.
But the decision to punt at the end of the first half is befuddling to say the least.
You can punt or throw on that play. Either way the half is going to end. But only one of those choices gives you a chance to score. Sure it's a remote chance...but a chance nonetheless. Meanwhile the punt seems to carry much more risk than a Hail Mary to the endzone. And if you throw, you also open the opportunity for a penalty that could extend the half by one play.
So please, enlighten Doodle as to the logic of that decision. It seemed to offer virtually no upside whatsoever.
