Aaron White update

Have no idea the size of his contract but he must be pretty well paid. Bought a house in Iowa City area. Not too shabby at his young age. Don't know if the NBA is a realistic prospect for him down the road but you think he would have developed a jump shot by now so maybe....

Not enough vacancies on NBA rosters especially for players who finished college and then have a couple more years age on them to make it into the NBA. Scouts, thus NBA teams are mostly just looking for college freshman age players to draft as is in evidence in this year's various mock drafts. Only the best of the senior age players are even listed in the second round of the mock drafts and most of them will not make a roster even if they are drafted.

I agree. Though I don't like it. I know the NBA has the best, most skilled and athletic players in the world, but it still is a team game that's needs lots of players to fill roles. Teams need tough nosed players that will set screens, rebound, provide hustle plays, get loose balls, get garbage tip ins, run the floor, etc. but they often times get overlooked for high ceiling younger athletic guys.

Add on the fact that Aaron White is 6'9" with a very long wingspan and has some offense to offer along with him being able to do all the things previously mentioned, if I were GM, I would at least take a look at him on an already talented roster that needs an energy guy. I get it. Guys like AW are pretty common and I am not saying he is that unique, but there is something about him as a player that is a gamer and more times than not is an impact player anytime he gets on the floor.

Maybe a bench guy that could have 5-7 year career if he found himself in the right situation? Not likely, but if I look at him with an unbiased view, I still believe he has talent and can be an asset to a Franchise.

Guys like White and even Baer don't have a skill set that pops out at scouts, who maybe see them a couple of times. It is their court awareness, quick thinking, and effort that makes them so valuable. Ryan Bowen couldn't shoot as well as White or Baer, but he had a pretty long NBA career, because he was lucky enough to get a long look, so his contribution to the team winning could be appreciated.

Never been to Russia, but St. Petersburg would be a pretty nice place to live, beautiful cultural center of Russia on the Baltic Sea, with lots to see and do. It is very near Finland and the other northern European countries. As a sea port, the weather would not be that cold, probably not a much colder than living in Iowa. Aaron isn't roughing it living there, making more than half a million $$$ per year.

Nice. Hopefully he can get the heck out of dodge, if we get into a dispute with Putin over the mess in Syria, or N Korea.

Wouldn't it be great if the Mavs picked him up? "The Iowa connection". Would love to see how Aaron and Jarrod would do together on an NBA team. Plus, Carlisle experimented with a big lineup during the last game with the Suns.

I'm not sure how that would go over. Rumor was that Ute and White weren't exactly buds.

Maybe in the summer, but Iowa might be colder in the winter months.
The chart I linked to is the yearly average for the past couple decades (can't remember when the IC data dropped off). I looked at the past year, too. There were a couple days where IC dropped below, but the data conformed to the annual averages. Macro micro, the trend was the same. I took a glance at the wind speed averages because that plays a big factor in how it feels. It was all over the place so I draw no conclusions from that.

Whether that difference can be called "that much colder" is personal opinion. But there is a difference.

I looked at your link for past 1 year, 5 years, and 10 years, and I just don't see your 10-15 degree difference. Looks like Iowa City is usually 5-10 degrees warmer in the summer. I don't see a consistent difference otherwise, especially in the winter. My point was that Aaron has a pretty nice situation. St. Petersburg is definitely NOT Siberia. I wouldn't mind living in St. Petersburg for a few years, especially if someone were paying me over half million $$$ each year.

Ryan Bowen was a much better defender. Thats why he was able to stick in the nba.

Don't disagree. Bowen was a top defender and did all of the little things, but he had NO shooting ability. He was lucky to get a long look, and his coach realized how much better he made the team.

No arguments here. But I don't get how we're possibly looking at the same charts. They're viewable in Celcius and Farenheit, are you sure you're in F?

Bah, it probably doesn't matter at this point. My point is, the data shows STP is consistently colder. Whether it's enough to make a difference is personal taste. I wouldn't care, either, but I know some folks where that handful of degrees makes all the difference.
