After 30 yeas in prison, Susan Smith is up for parole.

As parents, protecting our children is the most sacred responsibility we have. Instead, she murdered hers in the coldest, most calculated way imaginable and then blamed it on a non-existent Black man in order to throw police off the trail.

She should never breathe fresh air again.

She should not. Until I'd read the article I had forgotten that she killed the kids to be more available looking to the guy she was banging. Maybe just pick a different guy to cheat on your husband with?

30 years ago the South Carolina woman was convicted of killing her two sons by rolling her car into a lake with them strapped into their car seats. I doubt she gets parole, but it was such a notable case I figured it would be worth discussing.

As you probably know we have our own very similar case right here in River City. I was close to the parties involved. One of the, no thee toughest funeral I ever had to attend...

Wouldya?

The only reason to release her is if she wants to be strapped in the back of a car as it is rolled into a lake. The crime was unforgivable and terrible, and the pain it caused those children before they died is unimaginable. Her blaming others was disgusting; she is right where she's supposed to be for the rest of her life.

I vaguely recall it. Didn't she try once, and it made the news for heroic actions by bystanders and first responders, then a few months later she did it again?

Carolina Jury Rejects Execution For Woman Who Drowned Sons

He laid photographs of the two little boys on the rail of the jury box as he spoke of what the boys must have felt as the car slid under the lake at about 9 P.M., and how Mrs. Smith ran from the edge of the lake with her hands over her ears.

"When that car filled up with water they probably didn't see it," said Mr. Pope, because of the dark of the night. "But they felt that water in the darkness as it covered their faces."

TAL had a good piece this week on the inside look of a parole meeting when the journalist sat on the parole hearing for Henry Dee, a possibly wrongfully accused man who spent 50 years in prison.

People with incredibly heinous crimes like that usually aren't paroled.
