Ahron Ulis Highlights. "Will be an instant impact freshman for the Hawkeyes next season"

What I like about Ahron's potential, is his brother. With Tyler's injury last year+ ago (he underwent a similar hip surgery as JBo), he was doing a lot of rehabbing against Ahron.

The reason I think this is good, is that Ahron had to defend Tyler. THAT can only help Ahron's defense.

Like Tony Perkins, Defense will be what gets Ahron & Tony the minutes next year. But defense, especially team defense, is one of the hardest things to become competent at as a freshman... Fingers crossed! I would love a 4 guard lineup with Joe W/Luka/CMac, etc in a lot of situations.

Here are some pretty fun highlights of #1, Mr Ahron Ulis, where his team knocked out the #1 seed on March 10.

I see lots of potential in Ahron and he looks like he could develop into a very good starter for us, I just don't see him getting lots of minutes next year if JBO is here. Between JBO, JoeT, Connor, CJ, and Weezy, all sort of taking guards and wing positions that doesn't leave lots of minutes to go around. We all know if Garza is back he's going to get 30-35 a game and Nunge will be in at the 4 then a mix of Patrick and the new incomers will eat up the 4-5 minutes.

I do like that with Ahron we also have the possibility to go to a 4 guard 1 post lineup and put lost of pressure on opposing teams. That would give you a combo of 2 shooters, 2 slashers, 3 shooters 1 slasher.

If he can finish against B1G size he’s going to see some minutes if he chooses to play. I hope he can share the ball and feed the post as well as he seems to be able to score based solely on this highlight video.

Agreed. Ulis and Perkins are in great situations, where they are not counted on to be huge contributors. If neither of them contribute in a big way their first year it doesn't mean they aren't good. Iowa has Bohannon, Frederick, Wieskamp and McCaffery already. Not to mention Toussaint. The best guys need to play, there should be no pressure to try and get 7 perimeter players meaningful minutes every game.

Perkins, Ulis, and one of the Murray twins will all be all conference before they leave Iowa City.

lol

First team?

Based on ...what exactly? Franisdaman’s highlight vids?

Not a single one of these guys is rated anywhere close to what Garza or JW was rated.

I’m on record as lauding Fran’s eye for talent but ... this is one of those predictions that can only be made out of total ignorance of the other players coming into this league.

Sure, ratings aren’t everything — Frederick, e.g., has wildly outperformed his so far — but they’re also not nothing.

All America is what I am assuming

Is there a reason PTL can't be brought back?

Not sure. Gary co-ordinated it for several years and after he announced its end, there was no mention thereafter of anyone else sponsoring it. I live far away from Iowa, so I haven't been able to keep up to date regarding the possibilities of the PTL's resurgence (If that were possible). :(

I thought Randy Larson was the guy who ran it...co-ordinated it?

Wut???

F Mac interview disclosed his belief that the freshmen will have a hard time finding playing time.

Joe T had a good freshman season and clearly showed a very big upside. He's faster and undoubtedly a much better defender than Ahron. If Jordan is back at full strength, and no one else becomes a casualty, we're going to play the best guard court rotation we have had in the last 30 plus years. The freshmen simply aren't going to take time from CJ, Joe T and Jordan. Since C Mac plays a kind of point forward position there's even a fourth ball handler and distributer ahead of the freshmen.

Having said that, both Ahron and Ulis as longer term good players. Its been the first time in many years Iowa has had the luxury of allowing good players to get a year of experience before the team needs them to play.

Always tough to guess, but if all potential players are back, the bonus is there won't be a big need for a freshman to have a big impact. I noticed on KXNO last night Emmert said "there are no impact freshmen" in this class. Time will tell. Connor had good stretches at the four defensively last year, but a second big was needed a lot for rebounding (I realize that was somewhat forced with injuries) so one of the new comers will have to step up and take some minutes next year.

Agreed. I don't think that Emmert saw the year that Luka, CJ or JT had coming. This class has some kids with a lot of potential and drive so it could be interesting.

I just love to see these 17/20 year old kids that try a moustache and beard when they have little facial hair and otherwise are baby faced.

If you took all of the facial hair from CJ (his hillbilly long sideburns) Joe T (he's got every facial hair growing) and Ahron with all 12 chin whiskers at maximum length you still couldn't make a full beard. They look like little kids with costume hair.

Of course, most of us did it and thought we looked pretty cool at the time.

Players these days, especially 4 stars are not likely to redshirt. They want to play right away. Fran is going to have fun keeping everybody happy this year.

If your a 3 star player that works his way into being a 4 star player it usually means you have a good work ethic. Most of Frans players have worked hard to improve themselves. It's going to be a whole lot of fun for the coaches to watch the guys working for playing time. The competition in practice is going to be really strong. If you want playing time your going to have to earn it. Nobody is going to look at how many stars you have.
