Have not seen much chatter about Aiden Shaw decommit from Mizzou. I believe he had Iowa in his final 5 and he is a top 50 recruit. He would fit nicely into Keegans spot.

Has our staff reached out to him or has there been any rekindled mutual interest?

Sounds like they have not reached out yet. Depending on who comes back, Iowa does not have a scholarship available right now.

Decommitted because of coaching change, but Mizzou is set to hire Dennis Gates who recruited many similar athletes as an assistant at Florida St. I don’t know anything, but I’d guess he’ll recommit to Mizzou.

But Iowa should definitely be looking to get him or other players in his mold.

Hearing in kc he's down to Iowa and Arkansas
Arkansas has a 5 star coming in at his position, but there’s only one player between 6’7” and 6’9” on their roster right now and he doesn’t play much. I could see him going to Arkansas if starting isn’t the biggest deal.

Want to see Iowa continue the formula they had with the Murray twins in the front court together. Proved they could win a big ten tournament without a true center. So keep riding that formula.

Arkansas is projected to grab a transfer or two to slide in with their stud class.

Iowa will have at least 1 available, likely more than that.
We lose JBo and Ash for sure. Those two are replaced by our current signees.

Then Connor may be gone or could use his covid year, so that could be one open scholarship. And if(should be when, not if) Keegan goes pro, that is another scholarship. Heck, if Kris decides to go pro too(less likely), that is another scholarship.

Honestly, if this kid wants to join us and we have no spots available, you tell Connor that it is time to retire and give him a grad assistant position or that he can stay on the team as a walk on. He's already been on the team five years and had a scholarship for almost all of that time.

I don't believe Connor's scholly counts against the total so we have an open spot regardless what the Murrays do
That rule only applied to a guy like JBo and other seniors who came back for another year. Going forward I believe the extra Covid year will start to count against the scholarship limit. Could be totally wrong though.

Ooooooooh. So, anyone using a COVID year doesn’t have their scholarship count toward the team total? Nice!
I'm not sure that this is true. I can find that the NCAA allowed schools to go past scholarship limits on a one-time basis back when COVID started for the 2020-2021 school year. But not sure that it is still in effect this year or going into next year.

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure if the COVID year still applies after this year. I thought it did but maybe not. If it still applies, I believe Rebraca would qualify as well opening two schollys.

I'm pretty sure I've heard Fran say before that Connor or Pat can be taken off scholarship if they need to free one up

Every student athlete during the 2020-2021 school year was given the option for an extra covid year of eligibility. But, that doesn't mean that the school has to allow them to stay and they don't have to allow them to stay on scholarship.

I am guessing Aidan will probably get some more offers coming in. Spring is a time where there are lots of schools looking to fill holes and not a lot of really great players so guys get offers they normally wouldn't get. I think Shaw will be one of those guys. Hopefully, Iowa gets in the mix though.

JBo, Connor, and Ash are the 3 scholarships we gain, 2 of which are filled with Bowen and Dix.

Yes, Connor may come back for his COVID year (it will likely be as walk-on if there are other options available, as COVID years do now count against limit).

Because CMac started out as a walk-on, I don't think there are any rules against moving him off scholarship but remaining on the team.

Where did you hear this?

Where did you hear this?

There was only an exception thru the 21-22 season that allowed for the return of COVID year w/o it counting against the scholarship limits. Beyond that it it counts.

The way it's always been since they created the special waiver.

I hope (1) McCaffery doesn't decide he gave this kid a chance to join up with the Hawks and won't give him a second one and, (2) the kid recognizes that the system McCaffery runs makes offensive stars out of individuals that have the talent to take advantage of it.
