The Iowa wrestling team was in action at the Soldier Salute tournament in Coralville (at Xtream Arena) this weekend (full recap coming tomorrow or Monday). Also in action at the event were AJ Ferrari, formerly a national champion at Oklahoma State, and one of his younger brothers, Anthony Ferrari. Ferrari was involved in legal issues in Oklahoma and removed from the OSU team; the charges he was facing re: assault were eventually dismissed. He has been linked with a move to Iowa, as has Anthony. (The youngest Ferrari, Angelo, is a mega-prospect in the Class of 2024 and has already verbally committed to Iowa.)
Both Ferraris in action made the finals at Soldier Salute (Anthony at 149, AJ at 197) and both faced Iowa wrestlers in the finals (Caleb Rathjen at 149, Zach Glazier at 197). Rathjen beat the younger Ferrari, while AJ beat Glazier in sudden victory (...sort of). There was drama after both matches.
After 149:
After 197:
After all that, Ferrari was DQ'd by the officials and Glazier was declared the winner at 197.
Tom Brands spoke after the event, but did not comment on the Ferraris.
