Watched a lot of high school hoops to block out Iowa's tailspin. IC West has some talented players, but AJ Green for Cedar Falls really impressed me. He was a 1 man show late in yesterday's game and hit clutch NBA range 3's and drove / finished against West's pretty athletic back court.

Can anyone provide some details on this kid? What year is he? Is he being recruited?

There's been a lot of chatter on this site already about him. Scroll back a few days. He is a special player. I think that if Tanner Lohaus didn't make that tip back shot at the buzzer, Green may have been able to engineer the upset in OT, but who knows?

How is IC West not better than they are.

Don't they have four D1 players on their team? (Granted I don't think Patrick plays much) It seems like in Iowa, they should annihilate teams

They have at least 5, probably 6. There still pretty good, and will probably win the state title. Not as dominate as the 12-13 team, but ay.

AJ Green is probably a panther.

Any idea if Fran has shown any interest in the kid? He was the best player on the floor against IC West in my opinion and hit c l u t c h shots, something that I think certain players have or don't have from an early age. He clearly has it based on what I saw in the tourney.

I will say up front: I have NOT seen them play, but have heard from a few folks that have--and a number of times--that they are very similar to the Clones. A bucket of talent, but not necessarily a group effort each and every night. Again, I have NOT seem them in person this season.

Wieskamp has our only ride in that class right now. However, I suspect some transfers in the next 14 months.

Interesting. I would be surprised if there aren't 2-3 transfers, not sure why, just have that vibe after this season.

Just to be clear, I have no inside info. Just seems with that many players, someone will take their toys and leave. The comment Fran made about Williams passing Ellingson was pretty not-so-subtle writing on the wall.

Agree, the logical first transfer would be Ellingson... UW-Whitewater seems to be a better fit for his skill level

Just goes to show, you can't tell how a kid is going to be just by watching his high school highlights...............................................................................................................................kinda like this thread.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Not so fast. A lot of people on here thought Ellingson wouldn't amount to much.

This is my problem with Fran. He has two non-scoring PGs in clemmons/Gesell, and he goes out and recruits a 6'2.5 shooting guard that is athletically challenged in Ellingson. When Fran recruited him, he said he doesn't take guys that can just shoot, said Ellingson was athlete...and he clearly isn't. Fran's guard recruiting, the guys he has actually signed is: Gesell, Clemmons, Ingram, Dickerson, Ellingson, Ogelsby, Flemming, CW, Moss.

Jury is out on CW and Moss, but the rest of that cast is are all role players or busts.

I think Ellingsin was a fall back and Fran, if he could be honest, would say as much. He was recruiting LaChance at point that year, who I think has shown well so far. You have to remember Fran was recruiting Ellingson when we were still recovering from Lick and there was nothing to sell. I think going forward that has changed considerably.

If IC west had 5-6 D1 guys I would be shocked by what I saw. That was not a very good team and could not have stayed within 50 of the Ames Barnes/McDermott team or within 30 of the Marion teams with Paige/Bohannen.

The younger McCaffrey hardly plays but I like his potential in terms of size. Otherwise it was a one man team with Lane who might be an MVC player. Not sure about Connor at all. Lohaus was really bad so not sure what UNI was thinking.

A lot of people didn't think Brandon Wegher would amount to anything at all at Iowa (not even the '09 season).

But there were also those that fell over his jock on his hype alone.

He had one season of about 640 rushing yards as a Hawkeye. I wouldn't exactly call him one of the all-time program greats, and considering how he flamed out after one year, I would be more than willing to call his Iowa career a bust.

That's fine. I don't really care.

Doesn't change the fact that people over-react about recruiting one way or another.

Anybody who watched the West- des Moines Hoover game would realize just how much Hoover's athleticism bothered west, especially Lohaus who I don't honestly see as much of a D1 player. Fagan from cedar falls is MUCH better than Lohaus. Connor Mccaffery ready struggled against Hoover. Their athleticism just bottled him up and honestly I walked out of there thinking if Hoover's athleticism bothered him that bad, wth is the big ten gonna do to him? Patrick is a bean pole right now and has a long ways to go but he does have legit size.
Sounds like AJ Green outplayed Mccaffery in the semis too.

Why is the jury still not out on Fleming?
