Is he the real deal? Just read that article and had never heard of him prior to now.

Sounds like Weiskamp, really good at an early age.

His dad coaches at UNI. I don't think he will end up there.

Why would he not play for his dad?? UNI has proven they can go places. Not like they are perennial losers. Just the opposite... Unless he has aspersions of being something higher on the academic side, I see no reason to not play with his pa. But if you know something, do share.

No inside info here, but plenty of reasons for him to go elsewhere.
First of all, assistant coach at UNI may not be dad's dream job. May be that he has no plan to still be there in six years. Second, playing in Cedar Falls, may not be AJ's dream. Some shoot a little higher. Third, having a child (even of an assistant) on the team can lead to all sorts of awkward situations. I can see some wanting to avoid it.

Yeah no one but he and the family know what they want out of his college career. Going to UNI and playing there would be a fine choice. As would trying to play in the B1G or another power conference if he wants to do that.

AJ Green believes he's a high major player period! Many big name programs are beginning to see that he'd have already committed to UNI if that's truly where he had wanted to go. He's a 3.95 gpa and he has one of the best pull up J's I've ever seen. Some school somewhere is going to get a great kid and a great player. He's going to put up some monster numbers in the valley this season!

I saw him play one game in the state tourney this past spring, so small sample size. in that game, the kid was fearless and was deadly from distance. the other team was all over him and he still pulled up and hit the shots. if he is interested, I hope we listen and reciprocate.

If true, Iowa might have twice as many awkward situations in a couple of years.

It depends on the player/son more than the coach/father IMO. If talent is not questionable, a son who feels and acts "entitled" could still disrupt team chemistry...... that was my experience in high school -- coach's son was pretty good but he was an obnoxious SOB who talked down and yelled at other teammates. Coach/dad told him to shut-up occasionally but It split the team.

I just cant imagine any scenario where he would stay instate and not play for UNI. If he doesnt go to UNI, I would assume it will be some place that has a very slim chance of ever going up against UNI.

I read an article in the last month where AJ said he is looking at more colleges than just UNI and in the article it said his family told him he needs to do what's best for him.

Why? Best of all worlds. Stay close to home but play big time basketball in the Big. UNI has a great mid major program, but they get zero national coverage and who cares about traveling to Springfield to play Missouri State? Play in the Big, play against the best on the big stage.

Not sure I agree with you on that.
That's what opinions are all about. I've seen all 3 play quite a few times in person. AJ is probably the better pure shooter. Hunter passes and dribbles better than the other 2. Derrick can do it all. He can shoot. He has a nice mid range game and he can get to basket and finish in traffic. He can shoot the piss out of the ball too.
I think Hunter might be the best guard in the state right now as far I'm concerned. His IQ is off the charts and he's a pass first PG. So his numbers won't stand out. It also hurts him that most high school players can't handle half of his passes because they are very hard to anticipate on the interior.
I like AJ's game but that one step crossover dribble to a pull up jumper won't translate to the next level against high D1 competition. Teams will just guard him further out. And he can't get to the rim as well as the other 2 IMO.
Look for Derrick's recruiting to pick up as I don't think he had been getting the right kind of exposure before now.

I really like Strait and Diggins a lot. They are both more physically developed than Green right now. Green is definitely the best shooter as well as the most consistent player of the three. The fact that he has a higher ceiling than the other two (due to physical development) is why Green is the higher rated prospect. I do believe both Strait and Diggins are mid-major prospects.

It's not Green's lack of physical development that puts him behind the other 2, IMO. It's his skill set as a whole. I see him as more of a 2 guard than a PG. And I'm not sure about his listed height. I think he's closer to 5'11 as I recall being a little taller than him when I stood next to him. Unless he has grown a couple of inches since July. Which he could have.
Derrick is a legit 6'2 and Hunter is a legit 6'1. Not sure what they are listed at on the recruiting services.
I know that if I had to choose which of the 3 I'd rather defend, I would pick AJ. I feel that I could push up on him defensively and he's not going to kill me going to the rim.
I like AJ. Don't get me wrong.

I like both Strait and Diggins... but Green much more. Green shot better than both from 2, 3 and FT line last winter. Green also scored nearly 200 pts more than either of them did. Also, Green proved he could play against the best this summer by consistently putting up numbers against other top prospects.

All 3 should play at the next level provided they all keep working hard and take care of things in class. Some good players in the area to watch the next few years.

AJ Green torched McCabe, torched Norfleet, put buckets on Phinesse, Loyer, Ayo, Kezo, Herro, Chase, and countless others. Don't go there saying Diggins or Strait did anything like that. And AJ is closer to 6'2 1/2 now. Just wait he's better now than he was last winter buy leaps and bounds

I'm only stating my opinion based on what I observed. And I don't base my opinion on how many points a player puts up on another player. Nor do I follow any kid closely enough to remember how many points they scored on each opponent.

Family member played ball with him. Never said anything about UNI being a loser, just might be better situations to gain more attention.
