Looking to take an Alaskan cruise next year. Have talked with many people all all have suggested Princess, Norwegian, or Holland cruise lines. Want to leave from Seattle since meeting some family there days before. Any recommendations? I know best time is usually late July or August. Bad idea going around Memorial Day?

We have been in all three of those and prefer holland.

We went just last August on Princess. Enjoyed the inner passage. The shows were a good variety. The stops were mostly good. Princess is one of the few that get to stop in Glacier Bay. The final night we stopped in Canada from 9-12 PM. Not worth it, but they have to for some reason.
Breakfast and lunch were so-so, enjoyed dinners. The medallions they give you open your door, help them track your drinks, and you can locate your shipmates very easily. Surprising to us was there way a wide variety of ages on the ship. Over all a great experience.

About 10 years ago we went on Carnival out of Seattle in mid Sept. I really enjoyed it, brought the winter jacket but didn’t need it. Really depends what you are looking for and how much you want to spend. However I go for the ports, and the boat is just the transport.

End of May is fine for Alaska. Ships will have been sailing for several weeks and everything should be open. No matter when you go you will want to be prepared for almost anything weather wise. Princess is considered to be the best in Alaska because they have the Glacier Bay stop and they have really good pre and post cruise itineraries if you are doing north bound or south bound. IE, not round trip out of Seattle. Out of Seattle I would do whichever you can get the best deal on a balcony cabin. Celebrity is a good option as well. My personal opinion is a balcony cabin is more important than the cruise line for Alaska. Also, save your money on drinks packages unless you have a drinking problem. You spend a lot of time off the ship where you won't be using it.

We went interior cabin. The only time we are in the room is to sleep or get ready. You get better views from the top deck. Wildlife on both sides. The excursions is where we spend our money. This is a personal preference.

Aporeciate all the info so far. We're planning on going in August, just haven't locked it down yet. Any can't miss excursions any of you would recommend?
