He completed his 48-0 Senior season with another state championship today. He pinned his way into the finals by recording falls at the 1:16; :29; and 3:06 mark. He capped the tournament off with a 15-7 major decision in the finals.

Congratulations to Alex.

How stupid are you McCulloughd? You evidently were supposed to ask spooner first.
Spooner is still around? I figured he'd be recovering from his double ass beeache slap (or was it double beeache ass slap?) that San Souci gave him or was going to give him. You have to redshirt Marinelli. High School is a far cry from college. At 165, he will be wrestling men--big strong 22 year old guys. I don't know what that weight looks like, but I have a hard time believing he will come in and AA. Yes there is a rare true freshman who will come in and AA at an upper weight, but its not the norm, even for a stud like Marinelli. Standard practice is to redshirt these guys, so just because our prior recruiting classes have not been deep, doesn't mean we shouldn't redshirt him. In the end of the day, its an individual sport and we do whats best for each guy.

I saw him and his posse of 8-10 year old wrestlers coming my way and made a run for it.

Does anybody here think that Mark Hall wouldn't be able to AA as a True FR right away at 165? What I'm saying is Marinelli will be right there with him and he will be able to as well.

Can't be certain that Marinelli and Hall will even be at the same weight next year, let alone the redshirting options. I know one thing, if Tom Ryan had him he'd be burning that shirt right out of the gate haha.

I saw Alex in line behind me at the concessions. I was however, far too star struck to say anything!

Yes to redshirt, if that is his decision. You have to imagine it is considering he signed on to a school with coaches who have redshirted every freshman.

I say burn the shirt, wrestle him as a true freshman, the redshirt him the next year along with spencer lee, mejia, renteria, troy, berge, and anybody else who might come on board to load up for more title runs.:D

They have redshirted every kid right out of high school...so far. However, consideration has been giving to pulling redshirts in the past, even leaving one decision up to the wrestler, I believe.

Do you really think if Vince Turk was better than anyone at 141 in the room he wouldn't have been on the mat? Think again. They have redshirted every true frosh...until the time comes they don't.

Agreed, and I think and hope he gets a say in it. My point is that he has already considered it and must be on board with whatever that decision is.

I think Alex would AA as a true fr.

But I would trust the coaches to make the right decision. TnT can evaluate where he'a at and how much it would help the team. I know Tom
redshirts virtually everyone, but if Iowa is in reach of a team championship, pulling the RS could make the difference.

See MD (3rd?) LM (1st) and JW (8th) as the reference point. If we need him to win, he wrestles. Note that "needing him" implies all involved (none of us BTW), believes the potential points he could earn puts us over the top.

I'm liking what I see for next years lineup. Certainly a big question at 197 and 141 (we'll see about 174 in 10 days) in terms of scorers, but the other weights look good with the 149/157 spots sorted out between BS and Kem.

If we shirt him we will have 2 years teamed up with Lee. If we don't it will be one year teamed up with Lee.

Lee is another one that will be ready to go right from the start though - unless he is too undersized at 125 his true freshman year (which I don't think he will be by that time). Might need to start Renteria or Mejia their true freshman season as well depending on how well the less heralded lightweights like Wagner are doing for us.

See how he does at the 2016 Midlands then go from there. If he finishes high(1st, 2nd, or 3rd) then pull the shirt. If not, then keep it on.

I absolutely agree he should redshirt in 2017 of he ends up wrestling next year.

I'm on the same thought process as Lax, Alex is a go next year and then redshirts with what hopefully is a great 17 freshmen class. Yes the Hawks would be kind of giving up a year, team wise, with the redshirts but could set them up for something special the next many years. Only bad part about that plan is Brandon would really only have personal goals to wrestle for his senior year as the team will be a little light as a whole.
