I'm on the same thought process as Lax, Alex is a go next year and then redshirts with what hopefully is a great 17 freshmen class. Yes the Hawks would be kind of giving up a year, team wise, with the redshirts but could set them up for something special the next many years. Only bad part about that plan is Brandon would really only have personal goals to wrestle for his senior year as the team will be a little light as a whole.

I look at it as a similar plan to Penn St. They had Retherford come in to AA as a true Fr, put them over the top for a team title, then he redshirted along with a stud freshman class they had coming in (Nolf/Nickal/Nevills) in order to prep for a run. Obviously the big key to this puzzle is landing Spencer Lee, and maybe more in the upper weights Berge/Warner.

Hopefully in that reloading year of 17-18 the Hawks can still get a top 4 finish to keep the streak going of team trophies, will still have Sorensen/Kemerer/Stoll as a good core.. with some guys that could have an impact like Happel/Turk/Young/Wilcke/Holloway/Wagner/Rathbun/Paddock.. hopefully 2 or 3 of those guys can make a big leap and will be contending for AA that season. Then in 18-19 bring in the wrecking crew.

I believe it was around 2 years ago, I remeber Brands saying that he would put the best team on the mat and not scheme and plan to save guys like Burak for a possible better year. It may have even been when he was hurt and they were contemplating what to do. Brands said if he can make a difference this year he will be out there. I took what Brands said To mean if Iowa has someone with a reasonable expectation to AA at a weight he is going. So we will see and we can speculate what we think should happen in the meantime. He also named a few other coaches that would always do the same, Cael being one of them. . . Then last year happened. Guess he was wrong about that.

See how he does at the 2016 Midlands then go from there. If he finishes high(1st, 2nd, or 3rd) then pull the shirt. If not, then keep it on.

I absolutely agree he should redshirt in 2017 of he ends up wrestling next year.

The difference is with PSU they had a plethora of big time recruits coming in. Iowa doesn't have that, we have one great stud Merinelli. The rest of our recruits are not of that caliber. We do need to land Spencer Lee for two reasons; we could use him and to keep him out of PSU.

You just reiterated what I said

They had Nolf/Nickal/Nevills coming in. Nevills will be good, but he's been hurt and has been underwhelming thus far, next year he will be good no doubt, but still. I wouldn't undersell recruits like Mejia, he will be a stud no doubt. But yes I am well aware we need someone of Lee's caliber to come in.
