Alex Marinelli?

That may be the biggest misconception of me on this board and there have been several. I responded to a light hearted smart ass comment with one of my own. I was not offended or bothered in the least. I actually enjoy that type of banter. It was about as far from a chip on your shoulder response as it could be. But,(prepare for another light hearted smart ass comment) thanks for the Psycho-analysis!
I have probably read nearly every one of your thousand posts. It's not a misconception my friend. It screams through the computer screen. Don't get me wrong, I'm not offended in any way or intend to diminish your points (many are valid). I'm just saying your writing style invites the "misconception" so to speak.

So what you are saying is that reasonable, alternative explanations to your opinions are tinted by school colors and therefore wrong? You whiffed on Kemerer and MacIntosh plain and simple. You have a reasonable point on Alton and Gulibon. Need a prize for being 2 for 4?

I don't believe I whiffed on Kemerer considering I was only talking about developing freshman. Considering it was my "narrative" I am pretty sure what my intent was. If you want to blame McIntosh's performance solely on an injury, that is a solid argument. I may not necessarily agree with it, but it is solild. Finally, I was taught to never look a gift horse in the mouth. If you want to give me prizes I will happily accept. My daughter turns 2 next month. How about a pony?

Admittedly, your reaction is sort of the point of some of my posts. As I said I enjoy and often encourage that sort of banter. If it leads some to believe there is a chip, then I admit being a part of the cause. However, how I just explained my overall intent is 100% accurate. In the end it is all in good fun and I take many of my posts considerably less serious than many here do!

McIntosh's freshman year was severely hampered when he got his knee torqued by Campeletanno (sp) from tOSU. He doesn't really fit the narrative.

Have to agree. McIntosh was a beast. He wrestled as a true fr, as an undersized 197#er, as Q was at 184#. I believe he was also injured. He went 18-10, qualified for ncaa, and I think won a match or two, though did not reach AA. Given his small size, and still helping the team, it's hard to call that a "miss."

He RS'd the next year and added weight, and what followed was outstanding, going 98-9 his last 3 years, and a 3x AA (7,3,2). He beat Burak every time they met. He also had wins against Snyder, Pfarr other highly ranked guys.

I wouldn't mind Iowa landing a few "busts" of that caliber.

I'd call it a miss. He wasted a year of eligibility for a kid to not AA on a team that won by 25 points.

Fantastic kid, too. Very laid-back. Heard he's aiming to go to Ranger school.

How could they have saved that "wasted" year of eligibility? When he redshirted the following year, PSU had the national champs at 184 and 197, and won the team title by 4 points. McIntosh would have had to make the finals at 197 as a RS frosh for the team to have won with him in the lineup that year (and, realistically, with Quentin Wright in his way, he would have had to beat out Jimmy Lawson for the heavyweight spot to even crack the lineup). The decision to wrestle him as a freshman and redshirt him as a soph worked out pretty damn well.

A lot of Iowa fans call Mike Evans a bust, and he had a pretty similar career.

good point

I know he got screwed against Perry(who didn't -- lol?), but I am forgetting the Gold (Snyder) and Bronze (Cox) medalists he beat. Stache had a solid career for sure, but a little short of McIntosh's from my moderately biased seat.

Nathan Burak and Phil Wellington agree

Obviously, I tend to have an pro-Iowa bias, but I have to agree with you PSU.

By most any measure McIntosh outperformed Evans, though, Evans had a very good career at Iowa, and fans loved him. This is not a knock on Evans. But it's still true that McIntosh had higher finishes at ncaa (7,3,2 vs 6,6,6), scored more team pts at ncaa, had a better W/L %, had higher % of bonus pts, and I believe he twice won B10.

DNP, 7th, 3rd, 2nd with 45 points at nationals and an overall 17-6 record there

6th, 6th, DNP, 6th with 31 points at nationals and an overall 11-11 record there

That's not that similar, but it's also not cutting on either guy. They both achieved much in their careers and I don't consider either a bust. Bust is a fan perspective, but compared to all wrestlers, they stood high in the sport by the mere fact that they were both three time AA's. Hard to do.

yeah we are here taking about 3 timers like they grow on trees, but I bet each of these guys is alittle dissatisfied with their results. mostly neither won a title

I hope not, being a D1 wrestler is an accomplishment, achieving AA is something few people that start out wrestling ever get to, being a 3 time AA in my book is phenomenal. Hope those guys are very proud of what they accomplished. Morgan beat a world champion and Evans pinned a NCAA champion even if it wasn't called

No dodge ball for Hawks they go hunting which takes a man to do they just don't see much to gain by playing a kids game that awards you for just showing up.

Just another reason to be a Hawkeye! My kind of fun. If you like shooting guns and the Hawkeyes, you are good in my book. To bad almost nobody on here is stuck near Chiraq like me, although I have daily access to a shooting range. Yeah, yeah, yeah I know most everyone is Iowa does too, right out the back door. Shooting ranges in my area are not a dime a dozen.

This is incorrect. If he rs'd the first year he would have wasted his freshman year of eligibility sitting on the bench behind Q in Q's SR season. Ed and Q were moving up, that was out there a year before. The next year was 74 Brown 84 Ruth 97 Wright RS McIntosh. As it was, Brown had to sit out a year of eligibility (a year he only lost to Ruth & Sheptock) behind Ruth the year before.

I'm stuck in Chiraq with you Czech Hawk. Grew up near Durkin Park (83rd street between Cicero and Pulaski)
