Two of our founding fathers were extremely wealthy individuals.

George Washington lived at Mount Vernon in a mansion with 21 rooms
and a 8,000 acre plantation.

Thomas Jefferson lived at Monticello in a mansion with 22 rooms and
a 5,000 acre plantation.

I have visited both of these places in Virginia. I would recommend
them to be on your "must visit" list when you are traveling in that area.

Jefferson was deep in debt and had to sell some of his library to settle. He was the modern equivalent of $3 million in debt when he died.
