All 47 people in attendance are shocked at terrible coaching/execution

.The execution of the foul was poor. You need to reach in hard at the low point of a dribble. Even if the ball handler tries to act like he's shooting, if he can't bring his hands up, the official is never going to award a shot motion over a pass motion with that much time left.

Part of me thinks we should've intentionally fouled their big up 4 as well before the Williams guy made his first 3 to cut it to 1.
Helps when shooter takes 4 to 5 steps before launching

Fran has also won just 2 NCAA games in the past 7 years and counting (I didn't count the COVID year), which is not all that great, either. As I type this, there's a lot of work to do if this season isn't going to make that 2 wins in 8 years. Beating Nebraska last night is a start.

Fran has done a decent job at Iowa, but overall, it's been pretty meh for me. I'm not sure I'm seeing what it is that some people are so afraid of losing if there's a coaching change. Could the next guy be a flop? Of course. But we saw after Todd Lickliter was shown the door, that things can be rebuilt pretty quickly if the next guy is competent. This is something I simply am not afraid of, as a fan.

I'll give Fran credit for the post-Lickliter rebuild and for making the program at least competitive, but I think he's taken this program as far as he's going to. People are either satisfied with the current product, or they're not. I personally am not, but I won't crap on others who are. To each their own.

I don't disagree with anything you said here. I've consistently said the bar for me for a successful season is making the NCAA tournament. You make it, that's a good season. You get more, that's gravy and that's what makes things special.

Fran has been successful, but hasn't really delivered anything great and is unlikely to. I agree that as a fan that does get tiresome. ISU fans experienced that with McCarney to be honest. I do think some of the criticism of Fran is a little overblown sometimes. He's not a bad coach at all, he's just not great.

With the portal being what it is now, rebuilds can be literally immediate. IMO I think you could probably still get Devries and he already has WVU competing at a very high level, the game in Morgantown is one of the ones I have circled as a loss for ISU. I'd expect if Iowa got him they'd be immediately competitive at a level they haven't been for a bit and in a style that is a little more conducive to long term success.

You won’t find too many former players (or current ones for that matter) who would agree with that statement.

I am as fed up as anyone by the consistent glaring weaknesses of Fran’s teams, but I think we need to be careful in disparaging Fran too much. Yes, I still am irritated by things like burying the Murray twins on the bench behind his sons, the lack of use of timeouts, or Fran’s seeming yawning at terrible defense, but let’s not pretend there aren’t plenty of positives with Fran.

Yes, I think it’s time for new blood and for Fran to ride off into the sunset. I still believe there should be some level of respect for Fran bringing a little respectability back to Iowa basketball.

Fran has been the very definition of mediocre.
Ascended out of the abyss Lick put us in, so Ill give him credit for that .
However, in the big picture his lack of post season success with some pretty good talent is the elephant in the room.
The very definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting different results. That's been Iowa BB under his leadership.

Announced Attendance (tickets sold AND distributed): 7,812

Actual tickets scanned/butts in the seats: takes a FOIA from a beat writer to get that number.

From someone at the game:

This "attendance" bullshit needs to stop at every level of sports. Either report "Tickets sold AND distributed" or "Attendance." To report one as the other is just plain lying. From TV I thought it looked like, maybe, 5,000--about one-third full. It's embarrassing. If this continues, they should drop the curtains on the end zones and other sections, like they used to do for the women's games.

All you have to do is go back to review the posts when Fran indicated that he had recruited the Murray twins to see how fans responded to their recruitment. I don't believe that Garza's recruitment was well received either.
I for one was very guilty of watching Luka G play his Freshman year and trying to run down the floor. Looked like he had 10 lbs of concrete on each foot.

It is sad how far our fans expectations have fallen. They act like we are lucky to be average. I hope Beth has higher ambitions for the program.
.500 in league play. Averaged an 8 seed in 7 NCAA Tourney appearances over 15 years. And this is the winningest coach in program history.

I'm really not sure what our realistic expectations should be. At base, I think we should be able to win more than ZERO Big Ten regular season titles in 45 years. I think we should be able to make the second weekend of the tourney more than ZERO times in 25 years. After that...I'm not so sure.

Fran's a good coach at a program that's tough to win at. I don't think there are good reasons to lionize him or to detract from what he has accomplished here. You are what your record says you are.

The bullshit some people spout about "good students" ..."good representative for the university" is just that - bullshit. Every single single Big Ten program has that. Every. Single. One. Those things are the absolute minimum you must do in the B1G. If you don't, you don't have a job, see e.g., Juwan Howard. A coach doesn't deserve praise for accomplishing the bare minimum standard in the league. JMO.

Nearly EVERY successful athlete has had a parent or family member who worked with them outside organized practices. I've seen others say that Fran gets no credit for Garza and the Murrays' improvement. You don't think Fran helped their games? BS!
If Fran is such a great developer, where have these types of players been for the duration of his 15 years?

I know. Why don't the Hawks win the title every year? I don't get it.
What a natural step in logic. From why can't we consistently get quality players to why can't we win National Titles every year. BUT, to answer your question, when Fran DID have elite players, even at the same time, he still can't win in March 😂

Try again, friend.

Love when a wrestling guy tries to talk hoops.

There's a reason for that. Remember that Garza had a 9-pound cyst removed from his abdomen before his sophomore season.

The foul was right away, as soon as Nebraska caught the inbound. It was clear and obvious reach in, and I was near the player’s tunnel. If anything, Iowa should have informed the refs of their intentions, which appears is what they did on the 6th foul, but not the 7th when they were up three.
Yeah, any other point in the game you reach in with two hands on the dribbler at that part of the floor it's called a foul.

you think that was a well played game? Docterman even commented on the homer calls we were getting and I agree. That double dribble might be the worst no call of the college basketball season thus far.
I was at the game and the bad call tally was Iowa 1, Nebraska 7+.....missed a backcourt violation and several possession direction calls all in Neb favor....Iowa shot 0 free throws in the first half and didn't get to the bonus until very late game....homer??.....I think not

Seems like a good forum to post this:

Not surprisingly, the lack of fan support is noticeable to players, recruits, and their families. To be sure, by giving the program zero support we as fans are not helping improve the program (regardless of who the coach is).

Fran will always get credit in my book for bringing the program out of the gutter, which is something to be proud of. (Similar to Fry, but Fry's rebound was more of an accomplishment)

Fran will also be remembered for hitting the glass ceiling multiple times in the tournament, with all time great players, etc
I don't remember McCaffery suiting up and missing all those shots in the NCAA's.
