Could a team made up of all of Iowa's freshman (including moss) beat one of lickliters teams?

I think by the end of the year they easily could

With all due respect to guys who played under lick, I don't think any other than Cole and Gatens would see the floor. Tate maybe in spot minutes.

Who would be the Lick all-stars? Gatens, Cole, Kelly, May?, Tucker?

Interesting discussion.

And interestingly, Cole was a Alford recruit and Gatens was a legacy.

Lol, Tucker was NOT good. One of the most suprising pieces of those Lick teams was what I saw at the fieldhouse (gym, not bar). I know things aren't the same now but you used to have to wait 3 or 4 games to get on the floor. Win and you stay.

These guys would be in there (Tucker, lick, and others) and these guys couldn't hold the court. I almost felt bad because they would lie about scores, fouls, etc and get run off by the student body.

Lickliter tried to use Tucker as a PG and he really had problems getting the ball up the court. This was after losing Tony Freeman (3rd Team All Big Ten) who transferred after Lickliter asked if he had ever considered transferring and not being named a captain for his senior year.

Things pretty much got worse after that for Lickliter. Jake Kelly, Aaron Fuller, and Jeff Peterson all eventually left as well.

Jake Kelly would have been a great college player in Fran's system, IMO. I enjoyed that kid's game. He was very good at Indiana State too.

The most disappointing thing about Lickliter was his inability to improve on the character of the generally unstable Alford recruits. Instead the revolving door just increased velocity.

My first real immersion into Iowa basketball was Dr Tom's first year (Gamble, Horton, Marble, Armstrong, Wright, Lohaus, Moe, etc.) which of course included Ravelings recruiting magic. The Lickliter jail term was the pure antithesis....low mid major athleticism, slow, boring and ultimately losing basketball. Wow so glad to have that nightmare behinds us.

He beat Michigan state 43-36... that is just boring basketball and too boot he couldn't win.. he set the program back quite a bit.

It would be the close game but are we talking about when licks all stars are seniors? If so I doubt it with gatens and cole and Kelly could shoot. But if we are talking about what they were when lick left then i would go with our freshman. Because wasn't most those guys Sophs or juniors that had some talent?

I just always felt bad for gatens dudes was a great player and always wanted to be a Hawkeye he just got put on with the worst player and worst coach available.

Anyone remember little lick running the point? He shot 25-30 percent from the field and i still remember that game he hit that 3, i Remember being so shocked when it went in because when he would shoot threes half would be air balls.

Also didn't lick have a decent PG who transferred or was that off Alford's team he transferred to like southern Illinois or something. Freeman? Memory is fuzzy those years due to young and partying and not watching a team that crappy
