Probably the best Iowa has played all year (until the end). Unfortunately, the five best players on the court all wore red.
We played out of our mind in the first half and still lost by 9 at home, but somehow could have “easily” beat the #3 team in the country.
Oh and people piling on me as a Fran lover I had a thread about DeVries being the next Iowa coach. If the season goes south maybe his successor at Drake, McCullum(?) could be it. Drake is doing very well at hiring coaches
I recommend ignoring the 9 pt loss. The true analysis is we led for 36 minutes of game. That's a nice building block.
ISU is a likely final 4 team as tough as that is to swallow. Use that in your thoughts as well.
Iowa made almost 10 3s in the first half and went on to make one in the second. Then see the 20 second chance points and you understand more why only 10,000 Iowa fans made it to the game.
Fran cares more about scoring than winning. Or thinks rebounding is disrespectful to the game.
He’s good guy and he’s developed some fun to watch players. But this guy shouldn’t have a life time big ten coaching role if he can’t learn from past mistakes. I honestly don’t know if he’d make it to the sweet 16 with any of the top 10 teams this year much less his own built rosters.

I get your frustration I am as well. I remember our sweet 16 game vs UConn well who ended up winning the title. Been a long time ago. I still think this team is different than recent seasons. We shall see.
Can’t argue with anything in your post - besides the Brothers Murray, I am growing tired of the whole family themed recruiting….as some else noted, Payton would be a spark plug/limited role player at a program like Illinois, but he is essentially our showcased player at Iowa. I think you said it best when you said Fran builds unorthodox teams. It’s time for a change….

I remember 87 up 16 at half vs UNLV. Then suddenly Iowa forgot how to play, and I got blacked out drunk.
From my POV, your thread reads like you are a happy camper and upset not everyone else is happy camper. Yes, we are still on course for a moderately successful season.
There is nothing wrong with going 10-10 in B1G, probably getting knocked out in BTT early, being on bubble and maybe making NCAA tourney and then losing right away in NCAA tourney. The issue for me is after 15 years, Fran needs to do better than just being consistently at little bit better than 0.500 in B1G and a complete bust in March.
Did your really think they were going to win when they have lead at the Half? They just looked like a team that had shot well in 1st half and probably would fold in 2nd half under defense pressure because that is what Fran teams usually do. That is exactly what they did.

I thought Iowa played well and Iowa State played incredibly well. Gonna take the rare chance to agree with the OP and say there is a lot more upside with this team than most are seeing.
Sandfort played 39 minutes. Freeman played 26 minutes and was gassed, WTH? Less PT for Sandfort and more endurance from Freeman could go a long ways 🤷♂️.

It’s actually shocking how many guards Iowa State has had compared to Iowa. If you combine the Iowa and Iowa State guards into one group, I think Iowa State has 13 of the top 15 the past decade or so.
They gave everything they had, there will be nothing to regret,.. March will be fun.
Iowa dropped 11 spots in the NET with the loss last night. Even going 1-1 in the last two probably means a NET of 30-40. If you lose to Utah, probably have to go 12-8 or better in conference play. March will be fun if you like another year of Iowa not in the tournament.
