So far announced are

125
133 Zane Richards vs Eric Montoya
141 Bryce Meredith vs Anthony Ashnault
149 Lavion Mayes
157 Brian Murphy vs Max Rohskopf
165 Daniel Lewis vs Isaac Jordan
174
184 Myles Martin vs Gabe Dean
197 Brett Pfarr vs Brett Harner
285 Ty Walz vs Connor Medbery

Anybody think we'll see Gilman/Clark/Sorensen in the All-star classic? Also, who would like to see them in the classic vs perhaps people who do not want to see them wrestle in it? I personally would like to see one or two of them in it, I believe we haven't see a hawkeye in the all star event since Ramos was in 13-14 season IIRC. And before that.. i'm not sure, maybe Metcalf? Anyways, just think it would be cool to have one or two of the three in the event and put on a good performance.

I'm liking that we'll get to see Martin in action right away up a weight

Same reason football does. Boost moral and iron out technique and endurance at full competitive speed. Season is a grind, why go balls out and be burnt out come Big's and NCAA. We did have OSU early last year, so it's not always the case.

and we all know last year was an anomaly, not sop.ed explained it very well.not everyone agrees with it ,but it is our normal way.

It is a shame and embarrassing if no Iowa guys attend this meet.
Just imagine the posts on here if one of our guys went and suffered a season ending injury. I'm not advocating one way or the other and realize they could just as easily get hurt in practice. But many who complain about us not sending guys would be first in line complaining about losing a guy in some exhibition.

Gable talked about wrestling as putting on a show. That's what the All-Star Classic is. To not participate seems like a snub not only to the NWCA but to fans and recruits

1. That's what Apr-Oct are for. The season starts in Nov, not Jan. Not to compete hard for the full season is anti-Gable.

2. If the rationale is to not wrestle a tough early schedule in order to be fresh for NCAAs, then why haven't we won NCAAs recently, and why have Cael and TR?

One of the greatest moments in the history of Iowa Wrestling was last year's OSU dual at Kinnick. We need to be at the top of our game from beginning of season to end if we are serious about reclaiming our dynasty.

I wish I could like this more than once.

I can see both points of view. Timing has a lot to do with descent plans, etc. While you would like to have #1 and #2 in a wide open match, that isn't what happens most of the time. Sure, don't want to see anyone get hurt, but then again, I haven't seen or heard of any serious injuries at this event.

I like the idea of Iowa being represented on a national stage from a recruiting standpoint. (Unless we're afraid that snarling Herky on the singlets will scare the chir'ren away from the program…)

The easy and obvious answer: Gorilla Tape…

Holding guys out of this event is against everything that Iowa wrestling is supposed to stand for.

I haven't heard one legitimate reason yet for not wrestling in this event. Injuries are a bogus excuse. No more likely to be injured in this 7 minute match than at practice.

Taking it easy at the beginning of the year to boost moral and work on technique is also ridiculous. The people wrestling in this event are the top guys in the country. I could see this argument for some redshirt freshman, but does Gilman really need a confidence boost, or spend a month ironing out his technique?

i'm trying to stay out of this because I voiced my opinion about the all-star "classic" and took a lot of blow back.in high school our conference tournament was the first meet of the year and I hated it,but if i'm being truthful I quit being interested in this match when iowa quit sending their guys so i'm being hypocritical.if some of our guys want to do it great if not I hope they don't feel pressured because it might help recruiting(which I don't buy).

Depends on the individually, really. Last time we had a guy do it was Ramos I believe who wanted to wrestle Streibler, who was injured so he went up to 141 and got a win. Tony enjoyed the bright lights. I can't speak to why Gilman and Clark wouldn't but I imagine it has to do with a tactical advantage...why give a guy that you might not wrestle all year a feel for how you wrestle (plus tape of the match)? I do agree with the overall intent of you post (I think). If you believe you're the best, why not just go out and wrestle, results be damned?

You have my intent right. This is wrestling and Hawkeye wrestling specifically thrives on the iron sharpens iron mentality. We don't shy from competition any time any where. Shoot, we'll go against the best in the universe on planet Kepler-186f.

But, I agree that if an individual wrestler doesn't want to that is on them. I just have been getting the feeling this is more of a program wide mentality lately.

I think Tom has little to no interest in this event, for whatever the reason. I'd like to see some of our guys there too, but won't lose any sleep over it either way. I don't think it does jack for recruiting BTW.

Have to say, since no Hawks have committed yet, I'm looking forward to Dean and Martin. I'm thinking Dean but I'm excited to see what Myles can bring with the extra weight.
Can we start a petition to have 2 Hwy matches and add Snyder vs. Cox supermatch??

Really wish Gman would do this just so he could demolish whoever they put out against him and send the message now he's going to be out for blood this year. Plus some of my best match memories are from all star classic. Ironside vs Kolat in carver being #1a. Still get goosebumps thinking about that one.

I wouldn't call Oklahoma State a cupcake last year but they were pretty soft.
As I posted after the loss, does it really matter who wins (winning is better), come Nationals we will be ahead of Iowa. I'm happy you had your Nationals in Nov last year. Peaking seams to be a problem for Iowa the last 5 years. T n T seems to not want anything to do with this event.
love dean martin
Great, great wrestler

197 Pfarr vs Harner confirmed and 184 Dean vs Martin confirmed

No offense to the two young men, but that 197 matchup won't exactly be the reason the stands are full. For the record I'd love to see the underdog Harner prevail.

I don't see any Penn State wrestlers either.
I get the feeling that Iowa likes to deal with the NWCA as little as possible.

Both Iowa and Penn State have not participated since 2013 (Ramos/Carter, Taylor/Moreno). We also know that Tom, Terry, and Cael were the main (if not only) opposition to the NWCA's national duals proposals. Maybe there is bad blood. Or, maybe indifference.
