Which is very much unlike him. It can be argued that Brooks is even more dominating with hand fighting, ties and forward pressure. In most of those matches, Keck was still the one pushing the pace and often hurrying back to the center.

Star’s positioning is probably the absolute best in all of DI, so you really need to be able to push the pace and change levels enough to somehow get him to make a mistake. But, the problem with that is you then open yourself up to counters.

A rematch definitely favors Star, but I would like to see if Keck can move against Star more closely to what we are used to. If not, he isn’t beating Star going forward

I don’t think he’s going to beat Carter in a rematch. His last 4 bouts he’s beaten 3 former national title winners. It seems almost impossible upon him. Keck has great defense and offense also but he couldn’t get in on Carter.


As for the pace it appeared that Keck was taking his time more than Carter.

In my opinion he might be one of the most underrated, greatest of all time. You could say what you want about his tournament last year but I think he only gave up one point on an escape or something in the entire tourney, I know he played a different game because he was hurt, but I don’t see anyone keeping up with him this year if he stays healthy.

No one at Penn State is lied to there, I’ve talked to some parents of the wrestlers and everyone gets a shot to win starting position. There are wrestlers, many of them who believe they’re still gonna benefit even if they ride the Pines.

I’ve heard this criticism for approximately 10 years now, and a recruits keep on picking Penn State. It’s not gonna stop anytime soon.

Anyone who watched the match knows Keck's pace was not a factor, and so it gave him no more a chance than his delays to return to center.

You try to can walk back your conditional assertion all you want.

I was at the match, and like my old fourth grade teacher would’ve said, he was lollygagging.

Agreed, I do remember that now. The people around me were making the same comments I was making, it looked like he was trying to get a little extra time on returning to the center and such. It could be his gas tank , it could be his knee, I agree with you.

To me Carter versus Keck is sort of like bow versus Jessie. There appears to just be a gap. Yes Carter or Jessie can lose, but I don’t see Bartlett beating Mendez this year.

If you’re continually losing two or three to one on a super close match, I’m gonna side with the guy who’s always beating you.

What I literally typed was he would have a good chance to win with pace. I didn’t say he would win with pace, nor did I even say he would outpace him. In this case your open hate clouds your ability to reason.

The most surprising thing to me was the talent van Ness showed last night. I knew he was obviously very good but he legitimately seemed to be on another level from the last time I saw him compete. Not that Penn state needed any more hammers at this point..

I think he looked pretty good beating Kyle Parco in last years allstar meet 5-1 before he was injured and out for the season. I guess I didn’t see it as that surprising.

Not a surprise if you've seen Van Ness since the end of the 2022-23 season, including the few matches he wrestled in 2023-24 before the season-ending injury. The biggest question about Van Ness isn't talent, but more if he can stay injury-free (particularly the knees).
