Ah, the Sweet 89.

Happy to see that Minne has sucked as much as we have. Still think we make it this year but we need a win pretty badly

Fran just needs more time. You just can’t build a team over a decade.

It would be comical if Drake made it this year. What would Fran's excuse be then? Poach Brady or Gatens off the Drake staff?

Add number of times for each team on the list ...

...and despair.

Wisc., e.g., has been to the ss TEN freaking times since our last trip.

Florida State has made the Sweet Sixteen three years in a row under Coach Hamilton.
Florida State under Hamilton is weird to me. They didn't make the tournament his first 6 years, but he kept his job. Then they made it 4 straight, then 4 straight years without - he still kept his job. Then the last 5 have probably been the best 5 year stretch in program history.

I guess we can cross our fingers for years 15-20 of the McCaffery era!

This is just annoying and disheartening.

It's not all on Fran, either. His predecessors have obviously had a hand in it. Even Davis, while he did get us a Sweet 16 his final year, only made one S16 with his own players.

One Sweet 16 since 1988. 33 years.

Unacceptable.

1987 feels like a long time ago. That's because it is.

I updated my original list to include the 4 new teams from last year, and the two new teams from this year (Providence and Saint Peter's).

I have been on this board for the last 5 years saying we need a change. Fran will never get you to where you want to be as a program.

In the five power conferences (Big Ten, ACC, SEC, Big 12, Pac 12), of the 65 combined teams, 54 (83%) have made it to a Sweet 16 in the 21st century. Iowa is one of 11 programs that haven’t made it.

ACC- None of the teams
Big 12- TCU (probably should have made it last night)
Big 10- Iowa, Rutgers, Northwestern, Minnesota, Nebraska
Pac 12- Colorado, Arizona State, Cal,
SEC- Mississippi State, Georgia
Big East- St. Johns (also 1999), Depaul

I never realized it was this bad !

We have several opportunities to add more teams this year: Northwestern, Furman, Princeton, TCU, Fairleigh Dickinson, Florida Atlantic. We are guaranteed at least one new team to this list since FDU and FAU play each other.
