All-Time Coaching Leaders by AA's

More than half of Cael’s 101 AA placements have been finalists (56/101 my best count).

wow look at this list - and people still want to replace Tom - wild
If the measure of success is simply "AAs," then Tom is near the top, as this chart clearly demonstrates.

The issue is whether primarily generating low- and mid-tier AAs is defined as success or failure. It all depends on who you ask.

If you revise the chart to only show champs, Tom's numbers dip below Zalesky's.

Wild indeed.

There is a plausable argument on both sides. I reside on we are not gonna be happy if they get rid of the Brands before his contract is up or he is ready to go.

Take penn state out if the equation and just how bad are the Brands really doing?
In 17 seasons, Tom has won 4 team titles (2008, 2009, 2010, 2021).

Without Penn State, Tom would've won 5--the additional being 2023.

Ohio State would've won 4.
Cornell would've won 2.
Minnesota would've won 2.
Okie St would've won 2.
Michigan would've won 1.

Under Tom, Iowa has only scored 100+ points 4 times--same as Zalesky--and only once in the past 10 seasons. He's good at consistently being in the top 4 and producing mid-tier All Americans. He is less good at producing NCAA team titles and individual champs.

BTW, I'm not calling for his ouster. Just showing the stats, which are what they are.

Always sobering info when you read these stats. So thanks for posting…I guess. Haha

Since 2010, Iowa has finished 4th or lower twice as much as 1st or 2nd.

You’re making the even larger leap of assuming that the Penn State wrestlers did not exist and would not have wrestled elsewhere. These exercises might be fun, but impossibly inaccurate.

This is true. Without Cael and PSU I do believe we get Jason Nolf. Who knows what happens after that?

Penn state almost lost him to Stanford. That may be the wrong ivy but he was headed to an ivy. it was on one of his interviews, cant remeber which one.

Well, my source is about as close as it gets, but it's not as good as Jason, lol. Stories change over time, too. Schollie amount was the issue, allegedly.
