Alternate Uniforms Saturday?

These would be awesome.

Would give us the physiological edge because PSU would be like "WTF" and wouldnt know what to do.

They probably would have announced by now to try to boost alt jersey sales. I think we'll see the boys in their official uni.
I thought that, too, but they didn't sell the last all black unis did they? I know there was a hype vid, but maybe KF/BF decided to save it for a surprise and an extra boost for the crowd? Just spitballing, ultimately I think you're right.

The only thing better IMHO than alternate unis is the official Iowa Hawkeye uni. At night.

Get over it. If you want this program to get better you need to embrace alternates. The players, and more importantly for the future, recruits love them, so as a fan you need to like them too. Aren't you sick of looking like the Steelers for the last 30 years?

So a kid chooses where to go to school based on the unis. That's sad. It shouldn't even be in their top 10 reasons to go to a school. I personally think it is way overrated and if you polled recruits I bet it doesn't rank very high in their list.

Besides, our existing uni's are great, let's not look like dull turds in prime time for the sake of an alt jersey concept that we haven't figured out yet for some weird reason.

Never said that was the only reason, but it is a factor. Why do you think Michigan is making a big deal out of Jordan, tOSU making a big deal out of Lebron cleats against OU, and why do you think Oregon ever became successful at all? Nike threw cool stuff at them and 17 year olds looking for the freshest, dopest, flyest new gear followed. You're ignorant of CFB, and more importantly, recruiting culture if you think it's not a factor.

I seem to recall they didn't really announce it until fairly close. Although I want to say we knew by Tuesday. Is there a color scheme in place for Saturday?

You're correct, they did not sell them and they did not formally show anything until roughly 2PM, before a night game. There were some leaks though. Black and Gold stripe game.

Great way to building excitement on the day of the game, and even better way for the players to get into the game. After being stuck looking like the Steelers, you're going to be excited as hell when you get an alternate to put on.Think about how you feel when you go out wearing a brand new pair of shoes, let those kids get the same feeling in front of the fans.

I'd like to see a source where this rumor is coming from. I saw a post somewhere that KF might have hinted at it, but haven't seen a source for that.

Nike (or, what was his name...Knight) was pumping close to 100 mil a year into Oregon for awhile. Their facilities weren't just great, they were insanely over the top. Every player had a premium gaming system in their locker for example. I don't think it was the Uni's that were the key to their success. But making everyone else follow suit puts more money into Oregon's pockets (indirectly). So we should spend as much as we can on special uni's for every game.

Which is why North Texas plays so well and always gets the top recruits.

Dude, what? That makes no sense.

You said "them and 17 year olds looking for the freshest, dopest, flyest new gear followed."

North Texas has new, fresh, dope flyest unis (they were even featured on sports center) and yet they've been a doormat, lost the the Steeler lookalikes and get no top recruits. I think you are overselling uniforms.

Alabama, Penn State don't use them much if at all. They do just fine.
WVU uses them and their history is no better than ours.

Alternates are nice change every now and then. But, they really have no impact on the field or getting better or the best recruits.

I have to agree with k-man. Kids like cool uniforms and if a recruit is down to a couple schools the uniforms can be the difference of getting or not getting the recruit. I'm ok with our traditional uniforms but think they should be worn for big games (either home or away) a couple times a year and go with alternate uniforms like those worn last year (they were awesome) as the new look uniform. FYI...I've been a hawk fan for 40 years.

You would be incorrect if you think it has no impact. I don't think it should and some of what is considered 'cool' is god awful but it does have an impact.

I don't think it has much of an impact. I never hear a recruit talk about uniforms unless asked. Like when they say it's a nice change of pace or I like them. The question is always what do you thing of X. But when someone asks why school X you never hear them say "Well I like their colors. I mean the scheme is nice. But do you see the black uniforms they wear once a year. I can't wait to play in those"

If it didn't have much of an impact then Michigan wouldn't have literally had a parade introducing their Jordan gear. Again, you are ignorant if you think it doesn't have an impact. Recruits, AKA 17 year olds, like wearing flashy cool stuff, especially skill players, because they tend to be flashier.

Just because recruits don't talk openly about it doesn't mean they don't talk about it with their friends. Think about playing high school sports and getting your new gear for the year, it was exciting and everyone on the team had a good time in the locker good oohing and awwing over the new stuff. It happens everywhere, everyday. A kid wears new shoes to school and he gets a compliment on them, he feels good about himself. Same with wearing alternate uniforms, they get compliments and "Hell yea these are dope!" in the locker room, and feel good about themselves. Translates to confidence on the field. You really think Iowa didn't have a little extra swagger against MN when we wore the all blacks? I know we did, and I KNOW the student section was raving about those. Great for the current, and future of the program.

When they first showed the "all black" uniforms to the players in the film room...they went crazy!

Ha! Fresh, dope and fly! You most be straight outta the nineties homie! Way to lay down the knowledge!

If kids are choosing teams based on uniforms, chances are they aren't being recruited by Iowa. Iowa wants a whole different recruit than one who chooses a college on the freaking unis.

Michigan would have a parade over uniforms because thats what Harbough does. Its all about the flash. Show me the pretty pictures. If your going to come on here and start calling other people ignorant, then please provide us with some verifiable information that this isn't just your opinion, which is what it looks like to me. Others have provided FACTS, (you know what those are right), of super successful programs who don't run around changing uniforms all the time. Personally, I like the occasional change up, but there's no evidence that I know of to show that its a big help to recruiting better athletes.

They had to have a parade to introduce Michael Jordan. Most of those kids weren't even in elementary school when he last played.

Way to stretch what is being said. I don't believe that anyone has said they choose a team because of uniforms, it is part of the process. It is surprising what comes up in conversation during recruiting. One of my sons downgraded a school because they had Mediacom, another because the laundry facilities weren't great, wasn't the big reason but it was a consideration, uniforms and gear are a part of the process.

Is that why Iowa takes their picture in a Hawkeye uniform on their recruiting trip?

The Buckeyes own one of the most iconic uniforms in all of college football but are unafraid to divert from their regular look. It helps make the school (and Nike) more money on apparel and almost always gains the attention of high-profile recruits.

Just what is on another web site.

And it’s no coincidence that on what will be one of its biggest recruiting weekends of the year, Ohio State will be rocking new duds.

“It’s a tradition that’s been going on here a few years,” Meyer said. “Fans love it.”
And, more importantly: “Recruits love it,” he added.

And another, GTS if you disagree, hold onto Alabama, they 'get it' and are about the only hold out.
