Amazon Fire?

I have always had Apple and love my MacBook but I travel a lot and get nervous about breaking the thing lugging it around airports. I would go with an iPad but the Amazon Fire price tag seems very appealing with pretty good reviews. All I need is a media player and web browsing. I've even thought about just using my iPhone 6 instead. Just figured I'd maybe give this thing a shot. Any ideas?

iPad mini is perfect for travel. Get a combo bluetooth keyboard/case and you are set.

This is the best reason to root the Kindle Fire. You only have access to Amazon Appstore. If you root it, you can get apps from Google Play.

Thx for the advice. I went with this. iPad mini 2 not 3, couldn't justify the extra $$$ for the Touch ID scanner. Phone already does that.

I don't think you'll regret it. When I first got the mini, I thought I'd continue to use my full-size iPad anytime I watched TV or movies because of the larger screen, but now I don't even pick up the full-size one any more.

Evernote is a good one for keeping track of, well, everything.
I like the Kindle app for reading.
Tweetbot is my go-to Twitter app.
If you have HBO - HBOGo is a great app, so is Dish and BigTenNetwork.
