American Primeval - the year 1857

Random...

I was on a flight awhile back and sat next to a dude, long story short he was a native American who lived on the Rez next to where I always hunt in Nebraska, dude told me if I can get a Tag north of the rez he would take me on an Elk Hunt. We shot the shit, he told me he was an actor but I didn't think anything of it. He and I are Facebook friends and have gone back and forth about trophies from this year. Apparently he is in that show.

There's some really good actors in this. With the makeup/facial hair it took a while to figure out who some of them of are.

Pretty great series. Enjoyed it. There were a couple of things they should have left out (wolf breaking through walls), but really well done and entertaining. Liked the mix of fictional story placed in real historical setting.

I just watched Horizon for a second time. Its one of those movies that gets even better when you watch it a second time and can track better.
I don't get why Horizon tanked. I thought it was fantastic. Might be the most realistic and grounded western I have ever seen.

I just felt sort of depressed after watching it. Maybe that’s just me?
no gm. thats part of the message. The westward movement was brutal and hopeless for most, yet it didn't stop people from looking for a better life. you can look at it as depressing because it was...or inspirational that people kept at it. yet maybe they had no choice.

The colonel was right. there was no stopping in despite its horrors.

Understood- I taught American History to high schoolers.

Finished episode 3 last night so don't give anything away.

My thought right now is this is a bit over the top. I'm aware that the west was a fairly violent place because law enforcement was sparse. But still most people were fairly decent people, yet everyone in the show save for like a few people is a complete sociopath. Literally everyone they run into will steal, rape and kill them just cause they can.

I just finished it. I was really looking forward to it. It was OK. Godless was better. Deadwood obviously. I found it hard to beleive that the mother and son would last as long as they did in the barbaric world they created. And that world was way far fetched.

Also, a Mormon militia was responsible for Mountain Meadows Massacre, but it was not by Brigham Young orders. And they didn't take out a US military post or Indian army. I thought they made the Mormons look really bad with straight up lies. and I am no defender of religion.

This is an interesting read on the series as it relates to the LDS.
