I was just wondering if you guys are as amazed at this as I am? Bryan Medlin's house burnt down yesterday. He is the head coach from Washington Il(J War's head coach). In less than 18 hours they have raised over 21,000 dollars plus boxes around town for gift cards and money - No idea what that amount is. To me the fact that they raised 21,000 in that short of time is amazing. Does anyone have any experience with gofundme accounts? Is this typical?

The town sure came together around him (as well as others in the wrestling community also). It is great to be from middle America. It is definitely the heartland.

Based on what I've seen, this is quite typical. I've seen communities rally around people like this via GoFundMe accounts on several occasions. One of those cases involved a person who worked for a local institution whose house burned down, quite similar to Coach Medlin's situation.

Then, again, this is the heartland, as you say. People take care of each other around here. I'm very glad to say I'm not all that surprised. Really makes you feel good about living in flyover country.

The wrestling community came up big. I saw a lot of Greco guys sharing the go fund me and talking about how influential Medlin is in their lives.

I consider him the best technician and coach in the state of Illinois. I've also heard nothing but good things about his character and how he genuinely cares about the kids. Glad so much money has been raised

Bryan Medlin is the best greco coach in the country and a vital part of Illinois' freco success. He had 2 of his current wrestlers on world teams this year. It's no secret that, though seperated by a 2 and a half hour drive, the Washington and OPRF programs/kids/coaches are close to each other. Coach Medlin is an awesome human being, just ask Sammy Brooks.

On the heels of the town of Washington being wrecked by a tornado a couple years ago, to have a fire take the home he shares with his wife and 3 young children just a few days before Christmas is tragic. With the help of those that care about them the community bounced back then just as I'm sure Medlin will bounce back from this with our help.

Thanks for your responses. It is wonderful to be grateful for what you have and sometime we forget to just be grateful for where we live. God Bless all of you.

I forget all the particulars, but when a young wrestler (Austin Roberts from Spencer) from my hometown died last year (went straight from the mat to a hospital with shortness of breath, etc.), the wrestling community came up big time in a short amount of time to help his family and pay for funeral expenses etc. Don't recall the initial target amount, but they surpassed it in no time, and that was from all over the country.

It's great to be from the Midwest. No doubt about it.

I love the sentiment of your post, but I think Dennis Hall might have something to say about who's the best Greco coach in the country.

Terry might have something to say about that too. But to even be in the conversation as a high school coach, is extremely high praise. His practices are the stuff of legends
