And in not so surprising news, Kobe King leaving Wiscy

He is a redshirt sophomore. He sits out his junior year and has 1 yr left. He must really want out of Madison. I heard a radio report that his brother said he's lost passion for the game playing for Gard.

King is friends with a 4 star guard from his high school committed to Wisconsin. Radio guys from La Crosse are worried there could be a domino effect

One can hope that it starts a domino effect! That program deserves to be in the cellar for about 20 years... Or forever

Maybe a little Karma finally coming Barry's way. Couldn't happen to a better guy.

"After talking with my family and friends I have decided that the best step for my future basketball aspirations, as well as my love for the game, is to immediately step away from the University of Wisconsin men's basketball program," King wrote. "This has been a very tough decision for me ... however, after spending almost three years in the Wisconsin program I have realized that this program is not the right fit for me as a player and person.

"Being a Wisconsin kid my whole life, I always dreamed of being a Badgers and representing the state every game. I am grateful that I was able to get the opportunity to play for such a great university."

We talk about how excruciating it is to watch Wisconsin basketball. Imagine being told as a player that you have to pass/dribble around for 25 seconds before putting up a shot. And didn’t they finish with <5 fast break points against us? Iowa, improved as they are, is a team that you should be able to get a fair share of points in transition against

That style would absolutely suck as a player. And for somebody athletic like King, it isn’t difficult to see why he’d want to be somewhere that he can run a little bit

I wouldn’t quit on my teammates halfway through the season and I wouldn’t want this kid on my team as a future teammate because I couldn’t rely on him if he is going to bail when the going gets tough.

Look at Howard tearing it up at Marquette. I would be willing to bet there is a reasonable chance that King ends up there. I don't condone quitting on your teammates, but if he has lost the enjoyment it is probably in his teams best interest that he steps away also.

It took Wiscy years and I mean many years more then I thought it would for them to implode...Year in and year out I thought they'd be avg at best and they would finish in top 4.

I agree. As much as I despised the Grinch Bo Ryan. Remarkable how year in year out he'd field a top 4 team in the conference. He'd always bring in good classes and reload. Pretty amazing he found the right guys who bought into his system and at same time highly rated recruits and was very rare to see player attrition like Uthoff leaving. He was then able for most part to keep his guys and have the luxury of red shirting a lot of them.

Now that Bo is gone and all his former players Gard inherited reality is starting to set in for the Wisconsin program. As naive as many of their fan base was that Gard would just replace Bo with out skipping a beat. Well we are seeing that's not the case and I'm very happy to see that.

I can understand a kid realizing that he had made a mistake and wanting to move on, but King doing this abruptly, right in the middle of the season, smells of something bad,.. Not normal at all, and makes me wonder what else we are going to be hearing out of Madison...

The second paragraph is interesting. I knew that there was some issues with Alvarez being forced to hire. If I recall correctly, they wouldn't give the succession plan and so Bo Ryan started a season and then left so that Gard would get the job. I could be wrong and obviously they could have slapped the interim tag and then hired a different coach at the end of the year, but I feel like Wisconsin ended up making a decent NCAA Tourney run. Were their fans really in support of handing the team over to Gard?

As I recall, Badger fans that I had contact with were nervous about it until Gard manged to finish that first partial season with a decent showing in the tournament,... After that they were mostly on board and Alvarez was forced to put his ideas for a replacement on the shelf,... Bo pretty much shoved Greg Gard up Barry's ass and told him to like it...

I just remember their fans posting here and one Wisky fan I know talking about how Gard was the main recruiter and the talent wouldn't drop with him and seemed very pleased with the succession plan. They were all happy they were keeping Bo's right hand man and Bo could kind of forced Barry's hand leaving when he did with a team that made the tourney.

Again Gard just like Prohm inherited a very talented team. He had Hayes and Koening as Juniors along with 2 other starters and Happ as a red shirt freshman. But just like Prohm in year 3 he misses the tourney, year 4 knocked out first rd and facing a real possibility of not making it this year and which would be 2 out of the last 3 years of not making the tourney after a long run of over a decade of making it every year

it does suck. I played for a HS Coach who thought he was a combination of Norman Dale from Hoosiers and Bob Knight. We ran the flex offense and were told to not shoot but to keep working for a lay-up. We practiced Defense 80% of practice. It was terrible and took the fun out of the game. My Junior year we were ranked in Top 5 of state most of the year but it still wasn’t fun and most of the team dreaded going to practice.

Would have nominated for post of the year but the lack of commas prevented me from doing so. Learn punctuation.

In all reality, well done!
I second the un-nomination. @Moral should not get away with his blatant disrespect for written English. Personally, I don’t even think the post was very funny. That post shows mocking disdain for young men struggling to balance their love for the game of basketball with their love for the safety and integrity of their reproductive penis parts.

No comma would save that completely insensitive poster from being the, excuse my language, piece of shit that he is.

There were some who weren't happy. Bo left them with no choice by leaving in middle of a season with a good team. Gard won with that team, so they had no choice but to make him the full time guy. Barry doesn't like being dictated to, but had no choice there. Gard has done well enough in the role that Barry likely won't jettison him if they are out of the tourney this year, but if next year is the same Barry won't mess around.

whats weird, too, is their asst coach (Coach Moore) was in a horrific car accident that killed his wife and a child. Moore is in rehab, I believe. They wear "Do MOORE, Be MOORE, 4 MOORE" shirts in warm ups. You would think that this tragedy would have brought the players closer together. Instead, it seems like things might be falling apart.
