And just like that.....

Right, no chance whatsoever. Look, Wisconsin is a very good football team but I don't think they are some unbeatable juggernaut. They play Michigan and Penn St in the road, anything is possible.

I wouldnt call Wisky more than mediocre at this point. Tonight was 2-mediocre teams in the Big Ten West playing each other. Wisky is a well coached team who didnt make the big mistake. Iowa is the same damn Iowa team we've come to expect.

If we can beat PSU we have a shot. We still need to shake that lose to a crappy West team bug though. Even if we beat PSU and win out we still need Wisconsin to stumble twice. This game was too big for KF and BF to play so conservatively. We win it and all of a sudden we have to lose twice and Wisconsin has to win out.

PSU unfortunately is heads and shoulders above Wisconsin with a much better QB. We really should have won this game.

Exactly. We win this game and its Wisconsin that has to beat PSU and not us. They could still lose to PSU and Michigan now and if we lose to PSU they still go to the B1G Championship. The look on KF's face after the game looked as if he knew the Championship was gone for this season. I'm sure he doesn't like being absolutely owned by Chryst and Wisconsin now either.

You don't know how right you are. I nervously yelled to get away from the ball on the punt because I had a really bad premonition. Immediately afterward, the guy ran up to the ball and kicked it. How could he not realize everyone was looking in his immediate direction, which probably means the ball is near him, and take note of where it is. Mental mistake. It happens. It's a learning experience, but I still think he should have known better.

Then with about 7 mins left in the game, I could see well in advance where it was going, because we've seen it over and over again: Iowa has a small lead with the ball, reverts back to what we expect, the drive stalls, and the other team goes on a time-consuming drive for the first time all night down the entire field and wins the game with no time left. It didn't happen exactly that way, cuz we still had several chances to win the game, but like usual, squandered them.

The West is over for us. We’d have to run the table and have Wisconsin lose 2. If we lose once more Wisconsin has to lose 3.

This game was a must win for us —- it’s the tie breaker for us. This was the most beatable Wisconsin team in years and we did not get it done. Very disappointing.

The problem is that:

* Wisky is likely to go at least 6-2 the rest of the way.

* Iowa would then have to finish 8-0 to win the West (which would leave Iowa at 8-1 and Wisky at 7-2).

* Does anyone think Iowa goes on an 8 game winning streak to finish the reg season? Sure, anything is possible, but we are going to have to play near perfect ball and we are going to need help from teams like N'western and Purdue.

Every last word you typed. Agree

Yep. The 2 teams physically are close, but one is much better coached and prepared. Iowa talks like they’re solid and one of those programs that doesn’t beat themselves, Wisconsin actually is that.

Wisconsin lost to BYU. Every remaining game on their schedule is a potential loss. Unless they play Rutgers....

Wisky will run the table. The only game I could see being tough could be Purdue because their defense is decent and their offense is tough. I think both Iowa & Wisky could lose to them.

Regardless whoever makes it to Indy will get smoked by 70 to OSU. Not even close the East is the superior division and will win the BTC going away.

Iowa will end up in NYC or Orlando this year.

One game into the conference and already virtually no chance to make the Big 10 championship game.

This one hurt.....

whether they do or don't doesn't have any affect on my life one way or another (other than one more football game i will watch).

Wisconsin may lose a couple more games, maybe even 3. The odds of us winning out if they lose two more games are extremely small. The odds of us only losing one more game if they lose 3 more are still pretty small. We can still have a nice season, and of course I’ll continue to watch, but our chance for a west division title are all but over. We had lots of question marks going into the season so I’ll be happy with a a 10-2 or even 9-3 season.

WTF are you talking about....beat PSU at HV? Name the last time the ferentz brothers won a game like that--on the road? I would not be surprised to see the old warrior lead us to defeat vs. the golden oar enemas at tiny dump stadiette in two weeks.

The most frustrating thing about the game happened very early on. That 4th and 1/2 yard to go near the end zone. Ol' Doodle was screaming at them to do something out of tendency.....like line up in the jumbo (which they did) and then release Fant or TJ for an easy chance at a TD. Even if they don't make it, Wisky has something out of the ordinary to think about the rest of the game.

And guess what! Later when Wisky was in virtually the same position, at the same end of the field, they learned from our mistake and found a wide open receiver (TE if Doodle is remembering correctly) for an easy pitch-and-catch TD.

Teams playing to win do that. Teams afraid of their own shadow do what we did.

Same here.....it is just a game. But it is painful to watch them lose games the way they did last night.

painful how? if watching a game is painful for you, you must lead a very fortunate life. Congrats on that.

Have to agree. I’d say we have about a 5% chance at PSU. They’re better and it’s in their house. I expect another blowout, actually.

Yes it does. This early, there is still a chance but a slim one. Seems like this is what we have every year. Kinda understand why they were always inclines to schedule soft at the beginning of the season. Gives the kids a chance to iron out the details before moving into the stronger conference play. It may be the consequences of running a developmental program. Head-scratching mistakes last night for sure.

They will not run the table @psu @mich@nu@purdue they could easy go 2-2or 1-3 with that schedule

Ia vs Maryland is no gimme. They have good athletes and probably more team speed.
We're a 5 loss team, notwithstanding any un-flushed toilet bowl. Mark that on your calendar now and we'll re-visit after we flush the turd known as Nebraska.

Yep. Not going to be close. People talk about Wisky getting a wake up call against BYU. NO ONE in America got more of a wake up call than PSU against App St. They're scoring like 55 points a game since then.

Our measure of "victory" in that game should be more about keeping them under 50 and keeping the game within 4 scores, than actual thoughts of winning the game. Their defense isn't lights out....but it's good enough to keep our anemic offense at arms length.

Barring serious injuries there is no way we lose 5 games. No way.

8-4 or 9-3 is kind of meh season when you haven't won B1G since 2004 or 2000. Meanwhile MSU and Wisconsin have multiple B1G titles and lot more national success.

If Wisconsin is so weak that they lose 2 B1G games, then Iowa which looked roughly the same caliber and has almost zero chance to win out. Barring huge injury issues at Wisconsin, B1G title game is out of reach.

The upside to this season is over an truthfully Iowa looked more like a 25th-30th ranked team than a Top10 team.

Lol.

And we play purdue and northwestern. They’d have to lose two and us run the table for the right to get flogged by the bucknuts. Your point?

Problem is Ferentz can’t recruit D1 caliber WR’s. It’s no coincidence that one of our best teams had McNutt and DJK.
he thinks they are extra blockers and detests wr personality. He’d rather throw to fullbacks n tight ends
