And the Heisman trophy goes to...

I didnt watch their show, I dont follow it hardly at all by looking for news about it, havent been interested in it for some years now, and I only say that to show along with the fact that no one else has replied to this thread that maybe most hawk fans are not that interested.

Now if Kaleb J would have had three more great games, 30+ TDs, and he was invited to NYC then I probably would have watched.

Jeanty is well deserving, but tbh Hunter had a pretty insane year. Jeanty would have won it easy had we not had a top 5 player on both sides of the ball playing WR and CB.

-3rd most in receiving yards by a P4 player (6th overall)
-Most receiving TDs by a P4 player (2nd overall)
-2nd most receptions by a P4 player (5th overall)

-40.0 QB rating Allowed
-4th in P4 in Total Passes Defended (8th overall)
-4th in P4 in Pass Break Ups (8th overall)

You're joking I assume. I think it's pretty obvious that he's the best player in the country. Not only is he the best corner, he's also top 6 in receiving yards, 3rd in receptions, and second in TD's. Guy's an unbelievable 2 way talent, the likes of which haven't been seen in decades.
Playing both ways and putting up the numbers he has on both sides of the ball is pretty impressive.

Who else could possibly have won it? It's supposed to go to the best football player in America, and Travis Hunter is an All-American . . . on both sides of the ball! Hell, he's on the field for over 100 plays a game, and he's spectacular. Any other choice would have made the Heisman totally irrelevant.

And although I know there are plenty of racists who hate Coach Prime, his team is pretty damn good. So is his son, the QB, and Hunter is clearly the best football player in the land. And I love Colorado.

There's a case to be made for the RB that has 4th most yards all time with at least 1 game remaining. There are RBs that have won it with fewer yards and TDs.

They got it right this year. But it takes a performance like the above to do it.

The award lost credibility long ago with most fans. It rarely goes the best football player.

I think the closeness of the voting showed that there were 2 historically great seasons this year, but only one of them had a truly significant impact on both sides of the ball. Jeanty was easily the best offensive player in college this year, and his season was one for the ages. Hunter was the best overall player in the country this year with perhaps the best two way season since Jim Thorpe over 100 years ago.

Agreed.

Desmond Howard won it as a receiver and kick returner who also was a runner on reverses and other plays.

Charles Woodson won it primarily as a defensive back with 7 INTs his senior season but he returned punts and kicks and I and also ran the ball and caught about 40 passes looking at some stats. He had about 1000 scrimmage yards in his career. He was on a team that was packed with talent so he didnt get the focus like players now.

weird presentation.

I don’t recall a nominee being interviewed with his coach and teammate instead of his parents. THjr thanked his dad who wasn’t there with him, while Lil Wayne was. I can’t imagine missing my son being named the Heisman Trophy winner.

Congrats to Travis, it’ll be interesting to see how early a CB is taken in the draft.

Not even close to what Hunter accomplished this year.

Yep. Nobody I know gives a crap about it anymore. Maybe only some fans of the winning player's school. It's totally forgettable anymore.
I do think it is not the event it was in 80’s or 90’s. But it’s still a big deal to the players .

So many other things to do/watch. Also for awhile it became the award for qb on the best team.

That is why this year was refreshing.

Sure, but we've never seen a Travis Hunter in modern college football before. Melvin Gordon had a better season than Jeanty less than a decade ago.

One had an incredible year and the other is a generational talent.

That's precisely what I said in post 5.

You know how meaningless this award is, when most people don't even know it was awarded yesterday.
Lol. My 72 year old mom was texting me the whole night about it.

If you didn't know it was on last night, you're simply not a football fan. Which is fine, but there's no need to tout your ignorance and claim that everyone else is just like you.

It's still far and away the most respected individual trophy in all of sports.

It was a bit strange

It always seems to be, which sucks. Sometimes they do get it right, but not as prestigious an award as it used to be.
I guess I just don't get this. What are all of the examples of guys that didn't win it that should have due to it being a "popularity contest"?

Dad wasn't there, huh? Real shocker.

they should amend to the question from "who is the best college football player" to
"who has the sexiest offensive stats on a 10-win Power 4 (+Notre Dame) college football team"

Yawn... glad your 72 year old mom cares. That ought to tell you something... Her and you...

We're sports fans, so it makes sense that we care. As do other sports fans considering that it was all over TV and social media the last few weeks.

Jeanty and his dad both said he got screwed. Pretty classless, really. “I should have walked away with it,” Jeanty.

His team was 9 and 3 in a so so conference. As for your racist comment, I presume you are at the very least as wealthy as Musk, since you seem to be able to read what's in the hearts and minds of others. What a joke.
