Announcer fired after vulgar comments toward women at girls’ soccer game caught on mic

Whoops! At least they were making comments about the moms and not the players, where I thought this was going.

We have learned two rules last 24 hours on here, so pay attention everyone.
  1. If you are going on a video web call with judge and prosecutor about charges and sentencing for driving a vehicle with a suspended license, do not do so while driving a car.
  2. If your job is broadcasting athletics on radio or tv, never say stupid stuff when the mic is off and you are on a commercial break because one day, it will not be off.

I mean obviously it's an embarrassment for him and whoever he is broadcasting for. But what he said is pretty low on the offense scale.

He basically said

1. This game sucks cause they arn't showing technique or building up from the back just launching the ball down field.

2. Some of the mom's of these players are hot.

IDK I was kind of expecting a lot worse.

IMO, that shouldn't be a firing offense. Suspension? Yes. Sensitivity training? OK, sure.

But they weren't talking about underage kids, they weren't referencing a person they knew or presumably even had met before, they were just objectifying random, unknown women - which, yeah, bad look and super cringey - but c'mon - it's not like a couple women might not have a very similar conversation about a couple of strapping stud soccer dads.

It's also not like nearly everyone has those kinds of conversations privately.

Yeah it's not professional to have them broadcasted. But how many adults could honestly say that they have never had that kind of conversation before. It's pretty much a normal conversation whenever you have a group of heterosexuals of the same gender gathered together.

Reactions: torbee
they actually seemed to care about the game and were mostly talking shop. the 2-4 seconds of comments about moms shouldve got them a reprimand not fired

Imagine their faces when they went to put the mic live again and they realized it already was...

As Cotler and Terrill learned, every mic is a hot mic.

That being said, I'm guessing, based upon the description, that game was an otter shit show.
