Another airplane crash.

I will just say this much. The FAA standards, especially medical, to become a pilot, especially non-commercial, are truly laughable. If you are alive, you can basically fly an aircraft, and oh yeah, no educational or mental health standards, at all are tested.

When I read this I immediately thought about this guy, a true American hero:

so it's like Airport '77?

75 was the heart attack, mid air collision, Heston, Kennedy and Black. Gaping hole in the 747.
i remember as a kid being mortified as the copilot was sucked out of the hole. how times have changed in what triggers a reaction of horror, on both ends of the spectrum.

I saw that and Poseidon Adventure. That was enough for me ;)
Yeah, Irwin Allen was on quite a run then with the whole ensemble cast disaster movie thing - honestly WTH were they thinking?. Saw Poseidon at a drive in with the parents (followed by Taxi Driver, for which i was told to go to sleep in the back of the station wagon). Wasnt there a guy in Poseidon with a steam burn or something?

The part i never got about poseidon was how the ship was clearly upside down, but there were these large parties of passengers and crew that just insisted they needed to proceed "down" to the deck level. I mean how stupid can you possibly be? I'll tell you how stupid: Cruise Ship Employee stupid. As in hiring Roddy McDowell to be your bartender.

my football teammate in college would fly his plane home to iowa city on the weekends.
He had to fly by site following the roads. This was JUCO mind you and he was not real bright. I couldn't believe he had a pilots license.

This would have been 3rd block news coverage 6 months ago. I'm sure it will be a leading story on the national news tonight.
