Another Grain Bin Death

A 56-year-old Keystone man was pronounced dead at the scene of a grain accident in Keystone, Tuesday, Dec. 29.

According to the Benton County Sheriff’s Department, the victim was vacuuming grain into a semi at a grain storage facility in Keystone approximately 2:45 p.m. when it is believed that a wall of corn surrounding him while he vacuumed and collapsed, covering the victim.

Responders from Keystone Fire and First Responders, Van Horne Fire and First Responders, Belle Plaine Ambulance, Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Life Guard Helicopter from Cedar Rapids, and numerous local volunteers worked for approximately 30 minutes to free him from the corn.

The man’s name is being withheld pending notification of family.
