another swing and a miss

yeah, if we had got this guy nearly everyone would be pissed off
NIU was one of the most run-heavy teams in all of college football last season. Their quarterback played the game of his life vs. Notre Dame and didn't do too much the rest of the season. Cam Thompson is not great, but good. He could have played at Iowa.

kid had plenty of suitors. he was schedule for a visit next week, so I'd say that is a miss.
I'd say more of a miss if he made it on campus and then went somewhere else. Also I personally don't blame any offensive players for not wanting to be apart of whatever it is that the staff is trying to sell. A distant vision of a concept of what they want to do? Yes there was progress this season but they finished dead last the prior season so they literally could not be any worse this year. Kudos to any transfers that want to try to be the turning point, and as a fan/alumni I'm all for it. But I also can't be upset if someone says no thanks.

This is how any coach that is starting sells their program. I am not sure if other programs are guaranteeing playing time, but Iowa is a P2 program with an instant need for PT. I am pumped that they were able to pull in T. Smith for this years recruiting class, but they should be able to us playing time as a major sale to any of these kids.

Agreed to an extent. Playing time with statistical results is also a piece of that puzzle and that is a harder sell with KF still in charge. Which is why I said I can't blame any of these players for walking away. Do I think that could change with Lester? Absolutely. But given the choice of an SEC school that absolutely will throw the ball vs one that isn't sure how to do that....

Would he have helped us win a national championship?

We can’t tell if it’s a swing and a miss unless we know the sale price. Maybe we weren’t willing to overpay on a MAC WR with 28 catches - and if that’s the case, I consider that to be a good and disciplined decision.

Mississippi’s state didn’t exactly have a stellar year. They went 2-10 and very well could be panic-buying.

And I noticed the oft injured Bostick who bolted for TX A&M NIL had exactly ONE catch this season. Now, not sure how much he played or injured there too.

You haven't partied until you've partied in DeKalb.

If schools are desperate to toss money at anyone … then all the power to the kid… A school can spend millions on NIL but you still have to bring in the right players… Based on this kid’s numbers - I think we will survive.
