Im looking forward to seeing what adjustments are made from the first meeting.

Specifically how will they defend Dickinson.

Last time the soft double did not work well. Dickinson picked it apart. Diabate was the beneficiary.

That strategy might work better against Koffi but Dickinson has become too good a passer.

Iowa can win this game if they can just not get killed in that matchup.

This may be the time for some big O.

Let Dickinson get his and shut down everything else.

That’s my opinion. Let HD get his. Keep everyone else in check . On ball guarding will be huge to keep him from getting easy entry passes

I'm more worried about Fran and coaches. We may need to bring in a "secret" bodyguard. If Hawks are up double digits late, and then Howard goes with the press, Barta better tell Fran to skip handshake line.

Fran is one scary dude when he gets pissed.

#37 NET Michigan (15-12) is playing for their NCAA Tournament lives. They are squarely on the bubble and need wins, especially at home. They currently have 4 Quad 1 wins; beating Iowa would add to that total.

The last time we played Michigan:

* Diabate scored 28 points on 12-15 (80%) shooting. Will Iowa have an answer for him this time?

* Iowa got outrebounded 40-37.

* Connor did not attempt a shot in 16 minutes playing time. That will change in this game.

* Michigan got 18 points off 11 Iowa turnovers. Iowa got just 9 points off 11 Michigan turnovers.

* Michigan made 5 more FTs in their 5 point win. Iowa shooting was not good, especially from 3 and from the FT line (7 misses).

IOWA Shooting:

04-18 (22%) from 3
27-52 (52%) from 2 point range
................................
31-70 (44%) overall shooting

13-20 (65%) FTs

79 points

Michigan Shooting:

04-20 (20%) from 3
27-42 (64%) from 2 point range
................................
31-62 (50%) overall shooting

18-23 (78%) FTs

84 points

I don't know if the Hawks win but a lot had to go wrong for Iowa to lose the last time these teams played. Keegan wasn't anywhere close to 100% being hobbled for a lot of the game with cramps. How many times have you seen him miss dunks? Kris picked up 2 or 3 dumb fouls. Unforced turnovers.

Need to give Keegan a pregame IV and keep Diabate from going off for 28 points on 12-15 shooting. That was 4 times his average before that game and he scored 3 points the following game against Wisconsin. Whomever is guarding him needs to spend some time reviewing that film.

Defense defense defense, rebound rebound rebound & don’t turn it over.. if we can do everything we didn’t last game we win it!! Lol.. michigan just seemed to have good matchups against Iowa..
and I’m actually surprised Diabate didn’t get more games for how many punches he threw during the handshake showdown.. Would have been nice to not have to deal with him!

That's what Michigan did with Garza a year or two ago. They let Luka go for about 40 points but beat Iowa fairly easily. No matter what, Iowa really needs this one. There was no excuse for losing to Michigan at Carver, and the Hawkeyes could use the momentum going into Champaign.

BTW: As poorly as Iowa played against Michigan the first time, Keegan had a 3-pointer that would have tied it with about 30 seconds to go. That game was an anomaly, and I hope the Hawkeyes are so embarrassed that they go to Ann Arbor and come out with a win similar to the one they collected in Columbus.

Feels like we are playing with house money now. No worries about making the NCAA tournament, exceeding most people's expectations, yet something to prove and getting back at Michigan for a less than stellar performance at home a couple weeks ago.

I am excited for this one. Lot's to gain and a loss doesn't derail anything.

Only stats that matter from the last game was #15 Murray, if he even has an average game last time, we win. He was awful.

This is one of those games where having a healthy Nunge would make a world of difference. We sorely need someone with his size and physicality to neutralize their front court. Rebraca and Mulvey aren't big and physical enough and Josh O still doesn't appear to be ready to be "the guy" at C. I'm afraid M is going to get more than its share of offensive rebounds and second-chance points because they are bigger and more physical. Dickinson is probably the second-best big man in the B1G after Kofi C, though Diabate looks like he can be pushed around some due to his lack of bulk and inexperience.

Hopefully PMac is ready to rock and roll with a few days of rest. Michigan plays Sparty tonight and Iowa on Thursday, so hopefully they'll be nice and tired by the time Iowa visits Ann Arbor. I think Iowa is going to need to hit some threes to win this one - hopefully Connor still has the hot hand and can nail at least 3 or 4 of them, and hopefully JBo can contribute a few himself. And of course, stay out of foul trouble early on and hit those FT's. Rinse and repeat.

I'd be more surprised if Iowa went 0-2 these last two more than if they went 2-0. I think 1-1 split is realistic. One thing for sure, this is best stretch run to end the season I've/we've seen in a loooooong time.

I assume Diabate is back from his suspension. We have to keep from making him one of our typical "superstars" who score their career high against us again. He's a good player but only the Hawks let him score as many as 15 points on the year.

Was it really that long ago? Still games to be played, but after a mid-season slump the Hawks finished the regular season last year winning 7 out of 8 with blowout victories over MSU and OSU. Their only loss during that stretch was to Michigan. Sound familiar?

I stand corrected but this run, IMO, is better.

Still not convinced that Hawks have the bog horses to deal with Mich twin towers inside.
Is Josh ready to body up Dickinson
straight up?
Or do we pack in the paint and pray they miss wide open threes?
Bad matchups this week for Hawks.

that's really what it is... matchups.

in BigTen play outside of the Rutgers loss it has pretty much been teams with BIG posts that can score/rebound and dominate the paint are where we lose.

Purdue x2
Illinois
Wisconsin
Michigan
PSU (2nd game Harrar killed us inside)
Rutgers (Omoruyi did have 14 rebounds but that was just an ugly game we could and should have won)

I hope we have a better defensive solution in this game. Michigan is not a good player match-up for Iowa on the defensive end of the court. All I know is I hope Iowa kick's their ***!

Diabetes scoring that often was mostly because of all the attention Dickinson got.

He only has one move. Swinging hook with left elbow and shoot over his left shoulder.

Its easy to defend if you're anticipating it. Just overplay his left and force him to spin the other way.

I expect Keegan to dominate that matchup.

Maybe, but a BIG difference between a 6 and a 9 seed in the tourney, and the 4 still in reach in the BIG tourney as well, so the Hawks still have a lot to play for this week.....

He was in the first half against um the last time and neither of those things were true.

Him playing one on one against Dickinson is better than what Iowa did last time out.
I thought the same thing. Make HD work for his and don't double, at least not right away. Where Michigan has improved is him kicking out to open shooters.

I don’t like the matchup, but I love the spot.

Getting Michigan only with 1 day of prep after they play their biggest basketball rival is huge.

Giving up two points is better than three, if my math is correct. So let Dickinson get what he can, and guard the hell out of the three-point line. And I'm among those who thinks 10 minutes or so of Josh O on Dickinson might be a good thing. Let Josh bang him around, and I think Josh could come away with some rebounds as well. The kid is big and plays hard. I'd like to see what he can do on Thursday.

I agree Iowa has had issues when the opposing center that has had an offensive game that Iowa had to worry about or if Iowa has been unable to rebound because of opposing center size. I wouldn't say Iowa lost vs Rutgers or Wisconsin because of their Bigs, but they did present problems defensively for undersized Rebraca/Kris.

I think a reasonable case can be made for Fran to be coach of the year if he wins both these road games. Even winning one would be great and break the tendency for Iowa to lose vs teams with true impactfull bigs. So let's see how good a coach Fran is and see what Adjustments he does make or not.

Fran hasn't really varied his strategy of using mostly Rebraca and playing KrisM at center only works if the Refs are not piling fouls on him and Keegan. I personally think stealing some minutes with Josh playing 5 min in each half is worth a try vs both Michigan and Illini.

CMAC might be the secret weapon given how well he has been shooting the ball recently + he is very good help defender.

Perkins did this to Nebraska last Friday and immediately I thought of people saying "how does that Iowa guy averaging 6 ppg go for 20 against us!" Finally it happened the other way...
