Goes pro after this season. Please don't burn me at the stake as I fully admit I watch no nba at all and am no damn scout, just simply asking a question for some of you that may have insight. I love Pete and think he has tremendous upside. His defense has been excellent and he has a beautiful stroke on his shot.

A little scary how this team would look next year without jok on it.

if he does it means he will have raised his game to an even higher level. That would result in a deep deep tourney run for Iowa. That being said I am not sure he gets there this season.

Not a chance. One more year of Fran is what he needs., and I'm guessing everyone around him agrees.

Announcers today said he was a 1st round pick. IMO that is a bit of an overstatement, but I certainly see it next year if he keeps progressing.

If he ups his game round the basket yet this yr then it is possible this year.

He may be but sometimes announcers get caught up in the game.

I think he benefits from another year at iowa, but he appears to have the tools to play at the nba level so I suppose it's possible. It's got to be hard to pass up should he get information that he would be first round selection.

I doubt it. He was a total unknown before the season. Right now, he's got a name within B1G circles. Outside of the B1G, nobody knows who he is.

Uthoff is a nationally-known player. Jok isn't yet.

One more year to polish his game. Look at what uthoff has added in just a year. I think Jok can do the same. And he can continue to improve his range and develop his mid range game a la uncle Luol.

I think Peter will stay in school and run roughshod over the rest of college basketball next year. He would easily be one of the best players in the Big10 and beyond.

Never know what's in a young man's mind. But I think it would be a mistake to declare for the draft this year.

As to what announcers say, Me as a teenager picking up girls, Army recruiters, sports announcers...........I'm just saying...don't believe everything you hear.

Pete is huge difference maker. I think he will get a shot due to his incredible shooting stroke, just after next year. It's been an absolute joy watching him develop this year. He's gotta be getting close to 1000 puts too. He's at 675. I predict early next year.

Peter Jok will be the forth year in a row Iowa will have had a player drafted? Does Aaron White count?

After that 1st round comment by one of the announcers, I started wondering the same thing.

Trust me, I know nothing. But if Dakich says it, it probably means less than anything I might say. Pete needs to gain some strength to hold up in the NBA. Remember, last year, it was PJ being in basketball shape that was in the discussion. He needs to hit the weights and get in better shape to make an impact in the NBA.

Jok is having a great year with tremendous improvement from last year. If he gets good advice from people who know what they are talking about it would be to stay in college for another year to improve his game. He could do what Utoff has done as noted earlier.

I could see it. It is an unbelievably weak draft. Has to keep playing well but there's a chance. Either way, he's gonna get drafted either this year or next year. He would be. A perfect second round pick for a team. Good size can shoot the three and a decent defender.

Just. Cause you get drafted doesn't mean that you will be on an NBA rotation. Sam Dekker went outside the lottery, like 19tg and a second rounder and undraftes free agent are playing more than he is on the rockets.

The Illinois board seems to think he'll be gone after this year.

I disagree because his all-around game needs a bit more polish. But I could definitely see him getting drafted next year.

I work with a relative of Jok's, I'll have him ask if he gets a chance. I know Dau graduated from Penn and got his master's from some where in England. Maybe education is important to these bros.

We sure missed when we recruited Peter Jok. :)

Can we see the progression? For two years we had Marble and White, then White and Uthoff, Uthoff and Jok and next year it will be Jok and Uhl. Of course who knows after that but how can we be blamed for not knowing when all but one of those guys was outside the top 150!!!!

I believe Peter Jok's parents want him to get college
diploma and would encourage him to stay for his
Senior year.

Jok was not a unknown. after 8th grade people were talking about him, after his HS FR year all the blue Bloods, Kansas, Duke, UNC and Kentucky had offered him, he was rated the #1 player in his class by NY2LA, 3rd by ESPN and top 5 by everybody else,

after his SO season he had knee surgery and the blue bloods backed off,, only Fran stayed with him and he signed his LOI in November of his SR year and he went on to be named Mr.BB in IA Joining these with that honor
Lafrentz, Collison, Barnes, Paige, and Uthoff.

this summer after the PTL games were over he said he was back to 100% and felt better than he did after his HS FR year, we are seeing what he was doing before that knee surgery.

the recruiting raters said he was on pace to be the best player to come out of IA.

will he go pro I doubt it has he wants his degree so does his mother so he can return to Africa as either a Diplomat or be a part of his former countries government.

To think EC Matthews was the second choice. If Fran over recruited that year we might have had both. We ended up having room after Ingram transferred at the end of the year.
with Ingram leaving didn't that allow Uthoff to come in or was after Meyer left,

doesn't really matter thing work out one way or the other

I remember last year after the UNI game, all this board talked about was how much Fran missed on Jeremy Morgan by taking Jok.

I'd love to see a thread of all the mistakes Fran McCaffery has made since he arrived at Iowa. With the names of all the posters who were most adamant he made a mistake.

I wager the same half dozen names would come up again and again.

most haven't been around much this season

Fewer for sure. But one can find plenty in the threads after we lost to D2 Augustana. In fact, now that the archives are growing one can find all kinds of trendy type posters whose expertise has repeatedly turned out to be impaired. Not something I'd give a rats rear about except for the often over the top solutions suggested along with the complaints. :)

No finger pointing...I just wish that folks would realize crow is supposed to be a miserable meal...if you claim to be happy eating it, you've learned nothing.

If Pete can keep improving his athleticism and his ability to drive to the basket, he could become a first-round pick after next year. He still isn't ready, but he's is getting there.

I think Jok is benefitting quite a bit from the attention Uthoff has been getting. Whether or not this means he isn't ready, I'm not sure. I don't know enough about the intangibles to say what an NBA player is or isn't though.

Jok is starting to catch fire. If he continues this trend into the tournament and we make a deep run I could absolutely see him talked about as an early entry. That said, I just don't get the vibe from him that the NBA is his immediate dream. Seems very team oriented and a guy that understands how much he can improve with another year under Fran. His driving skills are improving but still erratic. If he ever tightens his handles he is a lottery pick.

I suspect this topic will become more interesting if we make a deep tourney run which seems like a reasonable bet. I had forgotten that the blue bloods all went after Peter until he had the injury and Fran won him over by staying with him. I love how Jok works so hard on the other aspects of his game besides shooting which comes naturally. I see him as a great senior leader next season if he stays which I bet he does.
