I know KF won’t evaluate his staff until after the season is over but will there be any changes. Personally I think the wide receivers coach needs to go he hasn’t done anything to enhance that part of the offense. Lester should have control over who coaches that position since he’s the OC. Other than that I do like most of the current staff.

You really think Ferentz will allow his coordinators to hire their assistants?

And you know this how?

Agreed on the WR coach (Budmayr). I think with Cade’s collapse, Bud’s failure is now complete.

Remember, aside from the Deacon Hill misadventure, it was Bud’s relationship that was credited with helping us land Cade in the first place. Can’t help but wonder if it was Bud’s negligence that landed us with a recruiting violation. And with the way the Cade era ended, I’m ready to wash my hands of everything connected to it.

Let Lester bring in his own guy to coach WRs.

I see it on the field. They have some of the worse receivers in the league. Route trees are pee wee league, drop passes, no end zone threats when we get down to the red zone, lack of separation, etc.
So you are at the games? If not, you're lying that can judge the route trees. They can't even be seen on the horizontal tv angle.

Not sure how you have intimate enough knowledge of the type of drill work that Bud is doing. Or the type of teacher, or communicator, or motivator, or strategist, etc that Bud is, to be able to decipher how much of your analysis falls him vs players, KF, TL, QB, etc. It is a team game.

Do you know for a fact that the route trees fall on Bud rather than TL? My guess would be they are from TL's offense.

Based on your post, you do not have any of this inside information. How would you like it if someone with no inside information about your job performance was calling for you to be fired?

Think you are probably wrong. The players seem to like Budmyer and rebuilding the WR position will take a little time. This was his 1st season as WR coach and some small improvements were made. Lester likes the young receivers we have and things will likely show more improvement next season.

Other HCs dump assistants during the season when it's apparent they aren't getting the job done. Why waste time? There are only 12 games, as KF likes to point out. Most other businesses fire people soon as their incompetence has been established, even if the timing doesn't coincide with the annual review process. But KF does it his way, kinda like punting from the opponent's 40 on fourth and inches.

Most of those coaches "dump" assistants mid season because their seat is getting warm for their poor play. (See Fickell at Wisconsin). Most aren't firing guys when they are going to win 8 or 9 games either....

Kaleb Johnson doesn't get many of the long runs he does this year without the significantly improved blocking of the WR downfield. I'm not a huge fan of Budmayr, but he was able to get those guys to buy into that. Let's see how the WR do next year once TL has a full offseason of getting the pass game implemented. Even by his own admission, between injuries and lack of time, the run game was really where he had to focus his offense install. And TL will ultimately have the call on if he wants Bud to be his WR coach or not. If Bud stays, then he must have TL's stamp of approval, which given the turnaround he was able to do with the offense without having a QB or a full offseason, I'll trust his judgement.

Barnett is the worst OL coach we’ve ever had, at least in the HF/KF eras. Four years of coaching and developing his guys and with the most experienced OL in the country his position group finally reached status of almost kinda big 10 caliber this year.

KF basically has nothing to lose going forward, so I’m sure he’ll stick with the familiarity/complacency thing and keep Barnett (and Bud) and will let us know what an excellent job they’re doing, just like BF was….

Fire George Barnett
Two first team OL and a third team. Not to mention he has replenished our line depth with solid recruiting. Four 4-star linemen and another in 26. Line was also semi-finalists for the Joe Moore award. Nope, the lines in good hands.

Coaches that fire assistants during the season are almost always trying to cover their own ass ?

Way too inconsistent. Disappeared in big moments. Destroyed by UCLA, MSU, and Nebby. Pass protection was terrible most of the year . Sorry I don’t share ur outlook . Hope I’m wrong.,

I'm surprised so many are down on our WR. Gill became a legit threat (certainly better than I'd anticipated based on his Northwestern career), all the freshman had good moments, even Seth Anderson had a couple nice plays when he was finally back healthy the last month. Last thing I want to see is them leave if we replace their WR coach (presuming they all do like him) and have to start from scratch at WR again when they finally have a young core that actually showed something. For some reason folks on here were enamored with Kaleb Brown last year when he basically could only catch passes within a yard of the line of scrimmage, a glorified RB (which makes sense for a high school running back trying to learn receiver). Well we have four receivers on the roster that already showed they can do more than that in glimpses, that should bring the same optimism.

The OL was an enigma to me. Joe Moore semi-finalists, and I think we had more than twice as many runs over 20 yards as the next team in the B1G. Yet, they had games in which they were obliterated, like the last game.

Most of the teams we played had 7-9 in the box. Hard to run against that. Did not use our TE's enough with seam passes. Limited screens, not sure why. Can't blame OL for WR and QB issues.

Are you guys at practice or something? Not sure how you would have any idea how these coaches are performing
You can check out the performance of the various position groups to see how the coaches are doing. If there is a pretty avg to below avg performance overall then maybe a new coach is needed.

But hey, our defensive back play wasnt always stellar or even above avg but that coach aint going anywhere and he should go anywhere

Wrong.
Just sayin.

RVZ was also a breakout player and a true frosh. I do have to disagree a bit on Kaleb Brown, he was the only receiver last year that could separate from a db. He was very raw but you could see the potential. Not sure what happened but his OWI seemed to trigger his demise. Could have been a solid player IMO.

It’s obvious we don’t have high level QB or WR play. They certainly own a chunk of the blame. It seems you are not willing to accept accountability for poor pass protection. It was a problem.
