Congrats on the great season so far.

Just curious about this. You guys are rolling pretty damn well with Beathard. Your former QB Rudock has got Michigan cranking along. This now seems like it was the best possible outcome for everyone concerned.

Is all forgiven? What do you think might occur if Iowa faces Michigan in the CCG?

Jake sacrificed a lot of blood, sweat, and tears for this team. Although I'm not happy with how he bailed, I still wish him the best. I think Iowa vs. Michigan would be a battle. They have a great defense. It would be a heck of a story. Both teams still have a tough road ahead of them though.

I'm also not happy with how he left. To me, CJ had to wait his turn and fought hard to get the position. Once adversity hit Jake he just seemed to give up an quit. By all accounts he was a great guy (spoke at my church a few times) but there was something about it that really rubbed me the wrong way.

I'm caring less about him as the Hawks are rolling to a 5-0 start.

No, but it was the right decision for him and the team. CJ is clearly the more talented QB. Give him some more time, and he'll shine even more.

"Rudock should have simple marching orders: Manage the game, don’t turn the ball over, don’t get sacked, run when you have the opportunity, and take a few shots downfield when they are there.

Rudock has had mixed results. He hasn’t connected on a deep pass despite several chances. But he hasn’t had to make big plays for this team to win, not yet. Maybe he will against Michigan State or Ohio State, but the formula is working."

The underlined is what many of us had a serious problem with.

Never really did have any hard feelings for him. It's looking like it was a good decision for everyone involved.

I was disappointed that he bailed. CJ has worked out well, but if he goes down with an injury, we'll likely miss Jake big time.

I never disliked Rudock, and wish him the best at Michigan.

Jake was a good Hawkeye and I have no problems with the way he left. In fact, I think that one of the unspoken goals when Ferentz put out that unprecedented two deep in January after the bowl game was to provide a clean break for everyone. It made it clear to Jake where he stood and allowed him to move forward both academically and as a football player. Iowa never looked back and went full steam ahead with CJ...which was the right call.

I was also nice this fall to know that there would be no back & forth Jake versus CJ debate amongst the fans.

Why would there be bad feelings toward a backup leaving?

Jake who?
Honestly, it worked out well for everybody.
How many people get to play for two Big Ten schools, play for a Harbaugh and go to two of the best Med schools in the country?
Whatever you say about Rudock, he's a smart guy.
I'm equally happy for CJ. He's proven he's no slouch and can throw the long ball that has been missing the last few years.

I don't have any.

Kid played hard for Iowa and did what he could. No true fan should wish him any bad luck. I was one though that thought we had a better option on the bench last year and I think that has proven out.

What a story it would be if Iowa and Michigan ended up in Indianapolis. '

Before anyone says lets not get ahead of ourselves, I can promise you no season has ever been derailed by unfocused fans. :)

Jake had some good games, and was a good player. He had his moments. No bad feelings. Cjs just better.

I don't understand why people bash his decision to leave. You would be a fool to pass up a starting job on a "premiere" big ten team with a new coach.

None whatsoever, he was a good ab here, he seems to be a very nice young man and he is smart as heck and will be a great doctor one day. A decision had to be made, Kirk kade his Jake made his and it all seems to be working out for all involved. I very much appreciate what Jake did while he was here.

I think it worked out well for all involved. No hard feelings whatsoever. Ultimately JR will be judged at Michigan on his performances against Sparty and OSU.

Iowa isn't talented enough to have somebody at QB play to not make mistakes. We need a difference maker and CJ is just that. Ruduck fits in to what Harbaugh is trying to do. With Jake we would probably have lost at least two games already against ISU and Pitt. I actually think we could have won in Wisconsin with Jake though.

I think Jake chose Iowa because we had the best Medical School that gave him an offer. At the end of last year, he lost his starting job and would be the backup QB to CJ. His transfer to MI gave him a chance for a starting role again, at a University with probably a better Med School than Iowa. I assume all Jake's decisions are based more on his future in medicine than they are on college football.

Be nice if everybody had thicker skin, but it can't help having fans and message boards blasting him incessantly. Hard to fault a kid demoted to the bench for transferring to a program like Mich which welcomed him with open arms, big name head coach who was a quarterback, and has a great medical school to boot. Be awful nice to have him as insurance.

I'm happy for Jake and was disappointed when he left (for depth purposes), but certainly no hard feelings. More importantly, it's interesting to see how many people on here think he has actually been admitted to medical school anywhere. And some believe it has already happened twice!

Just wondering...why do you as a Nebraska fan care?
Do you wish Pelini was still your coach or have you moved on? Just curious.

good luck to him. Unless he plays the Hawks.

Just my opinion. but I suspect the "medical school" at each institution probably played very little role in his decision. He would still have to have the grades and the MCAT scores to get into either school. Average scores to get into Iowa are about 33, and Michigan 35, last time I checked. Pretty similar but U of M w/ slight edge (also they are pulling from a higher population state). Both are excellent standards for public universities.

His celebrity might help but it is not a guarantee (depending on how the admission committee operates). My guess is that if he had good enough grades and scores it is probably a moot point.

Forgiven? Hard feelings? No reason for either. JR was a good Hawk while here. Cant blame a guy for knowing his limitations and wanting to be able to actually get to play his senior year.

Thanks for unneeded thread number 142

I was a good move for the Hawks. CJ is the better QB, they wouldn't be in the position they are without him.
Unfortunate to have an untested back up, but that's true of the vast majority of teams.
While I'm no Harbaugh fan, he clearly knows what he's doing from his record. If Jake is his starter, then he must be the best guy available to execute his system. The only concern I have about meechigan is however their wins or losses help Iowa. If it doesn't matter much one way or the other to the Hawks standings, then I'd just as soon they lose.

Once a Hawk, always a Hawk. I have nothing but repect for Jake. He wanted a chance to play his last year of eligibility. Can't fault him about that. Hope he does well and helps Michigan shake up the East.

Is he actually attending med school at UM right now? I would think he's just taking graduate classes in something more manageable while he plays football. It has to be hard enough juggling a pre-med undergrad load while playing football.

No hard feelings from me. Jake won 15 games for us and I thank him for that, He was a fine Hawkeye and I hope he kicks Dantonios ass and Urbans ass. It's pretty clear at least at this point that this has worked well for everyone.

This has worked out best for everyone.

How anyone can have hard feelings for Rudock or say that he "bailed" is beyond me. I think CJB should have been starting all along, but the fact of the matter is that Rudock started two years and after the second year ended, the staff announced he lost his job.

Looking at it from Rudock's perspective, you either stay at Iowa and sit on the bench after starting the two previous years or you move on to Michigan and obtain the starting QB position. There isn't a person on here that would have chosen the bench option over the great chance of starting for Michigan. No way, no how. He didn't bail anymore than the coaches bailed on him.

No hard feelings at all. My only feelings is to Kirk, taking him so long to play the right guy. Oh well... he finally came to his senses, so better late then never.

I was disappointed that he bailed. CJ has worked out well, but if he goes down with an injury, we'll likely miss Jake big time.

Absolutely this. Beathard is better but if he were to go down it would be nice to have Rudock with his veteran's experience. I don't blame him for leaving but I wish he had stayed. It's not like his year at Michigan is going to put him in the NFL.

No, he's not going to the NFL, but he gets the opportunity to play against another Big Ten schedule. He is not a bad D1 quarterback and he was not a bad quarterback for the Hawks. People are comparing this to Christensen/Stanzi, but it's apples and oranges. Rudock did not throw darts at the ground two yards in front of receivers in the flat. Rudock completed most of those passes. I haven't looked at the numbers, but I'd be willing to be that Rudock didn't turn the ball over any more than Stanzi. Rudock would have been a GREAT option to backup CJ, but we only know that because Rudock started for the Hawks for two years and he mostly played well. He didn't make the plays we've decided that CJ can make (against our schedule thus far), but he didn't suck. People don't remember how bad Christensen was and they forget the NFL defense backing up Stanzi in 2009 and 2010. Wiegers is one of the best recruits on our roster and we don't know what would happen if CJ got hurt. Rudock is good enough to start for Michigan this year.

It's hard to blame Rudock for taking advantage of this opportunity.

ALSO EVERYBODY: STFU about medical school and Jake. There's no such thing as majoring in "pre-med." Med schools don't admit students based on where they played quarterback as a undergrad.
