I’ve always driven pieces of crap because I’m a cheap bastard. (It’s a joke amongst my friends) but The Frau always drives something nice. Hell, I bought my kids better cars than I drive.

I currently drive a piece of crap 2001 Dodge caravan...thought it would make a good beach vehicle and only cost me $1600 3 years ago. Before that I drove a piece of shit Ford Fiesta circa 2003 that baseball sized hail made it look like it was beaten with a hammer.....pocketed the insurance money and just replaced the windshield. Before that drove a 1991 Honda Accord for 10 years and had 320K miles on it before I had to put it down.

The wife currently drives a 2018 Volvo XC 60.

I think my wife is on vehicle 3 since I bought my truck. But, we're still poor compared to all you here...

We put tons of miles on cars so they tend
To be newer but high mileage. I have a 2017 Kia Niro and my wife drives a 2019 RAV4

Wife wanted a new car, so we shopped and found one she liked. After a month she decided the new one was too big and liked the older car more. Now she drives the old shitty one and I drive the new car.

I drive a 2004 POS Dodge Ram 1500 that is rusting all to hell. Wife drives a 2009 Infiniti G37G hard top convertible in the warm months and our 2017 Ford F150 in the winter.

I'll drive my POS until it falls apart. The motor and tranny are fine it's a question of whats going to fall of next.

Never have owned a new vehicle. Never will. It is the worst investment any person can make. Value drops immediately. Used cars have lower insurance, lower registration costs.

This is very true. You have to pay if you want to have a car that wasn't spoiled by some poor before you.

This thread is for poors
Lots of poors drive brand new vehicles. There is nothing I enjoy more than listening to co-workers complain about being broke when they pull into the lot every day in a $50,000 ride that sits in the lot all day, and in their garage all night depreciating. But, they do help to drive the economy and the bankruptcy system.

A great point. I won't get into my mortgage/student loan argument. But there are a ton of car dealers that sell and give loans to people that they know can't afford it

I kind of like working on the old pieces of crap. My wife’s Volvo doesn’t even have a dipstick....wtf is that? Have to look on the computer to check the oil.

I LOL at this, b/c I don't know shite about cars, but my BIL does. I got a 2008 Avalon for sale and he is eagerly wanting to sell it for me. Great car, just don't need 3 cars. Make your best offers HROT. Only 138,000 miles for being 13 years old.

As an avid Toyota driver, I'd say pick it up - that thing will run forever.

The Avalon, Sienna, and Highlander all share the same platform/drivetrain. The 3.5 V6 is bulletproof

I hear this argument from lots of people, but have yet to meet someone that tried to sell a new car immediately only to be disappointed in offers.

Isn’t that the same thing with all new things? Ever tried to sell a set of furniture after you bought it? They sell used couches too.... but I happen to enjoy my things new.

I have actually heard stories of people selling (trucks especially) for MORE than they paid for them new during the pandemic.

Good for you. I don't see a lot of used furniture going for what it was sold for around here.

To another poster's mention of trucks selling high....well there is a term redneck....that doesn't get that the stimulus money was for the family....not for being tough guy

Please don't take this offensive. But I'm calling BS.
You can call BS all you want, but I paid $42,600 on my Ram Eco diesel in June. It's got 5,500 miles on it now, Nada has a retail of $66,000 on it. $68,000 certified.
My wife's 2017 Cherokee has a $24.000 retail right now, $1,000 less than what we bought it new for in 2018.

Covid has turned the world upside down. You're not full of BS, but this is not normal.

I know, I've had it happen on a used truck one other time after cash for clunkers, I had a Dakota totaled by hail and it was valued for about $3,000 more that I paid for it.

I wasn't even planning on buying the Ram last year. I normally try to buy a carry over model in June, I just got the deal I would have expected a year sooner than I was planning on. My wife was a bit freaked because of the uncertainty going on.

This is more common than what some people realize. I paid $18500 for my used 2015 F250 SD last June. Took it into the same dealer to get serviced since my 1st service is free and they offered me $31500 to trade it in on a new truck.
