Anyone else concerned about McCollum?

How is it dumb to point out that a D2 coach who doesn’t recruit nationally but gets regional players who help him succeed is being considered for a head coaching job at a higher level where his team will be facing bigger, stronger, quicker, more talented athletes? I fear at Iowa the outcome would be similar to what we all saw in the second half of the Texas Tech game. We’ve seen that show before, unfortunately.
How many championships did he win at that level?

And what has he proved after just one year at D1, with essentially the same type of players?

Did you expect him to get to the final four with those players?

And most importantly, given that he has experienced in high-pressure winning championships, more than one, then throw in much better players than he has now. What would you expect the result to be logically?

Iowa is going to need athletes. Hard to win in the B1G with a bunch of role players. You can have a couple, but not the entire roster.

I understand he’s an outstanding coach, teaches and practices solid fundamentals, he’s a winner, gets more out of what he has, etc. They went 30-3 and beat a decent Big12 Missouri team in the opening round.

What bothers me is whether he can recruit and coach the kind of strong, fast athletes to compete night in and night out in the B1G. I’m sorry but his players look pretty Caucasian, not unlike some of FM’s lineups. They faded in the second half against TT today, a lot like Fran’s teams. Can BM take his coaching skills and obvious talents — particularly in the new NIL era — to the next level at a place like Iowa and be competitive?

Flame away…

Reminds me of a totally outmatched team in the 1980s with Uwe Blab, Dan Dakich, Marty Simmons, Steve Alford and Mike Giomi taking on Michael Jordan, Kenny Smith, Brad Daugherty and Sam Perkins in the NCAA Tournament.

Just no way NC loses that game, yo...

Don't forget Stew Robinson! 14 points off the bench in that game! :)

The lack of basketball knowledge on this board is incredible.

Same with the start of this thread based on the players being white. McCollum will be fine. Give him some time.

Want to help? Buy some Swarm beer and vodka. Some of you miserable people need it.
Lemme guess, you weren't on board with Lick at the time?
Got it.

This is a very stupid thread. "What bothers me ... " about tweeter is why he has to bring his Anxiety into a happy day in Hawkland.
(he is only worth on line)

There is almost nothing about the two coaches that is similar.

Lick played a very slow style of basketball, no matter who he had. He coached like an overmatched high school team with no shot clock.

Could McCollum fail at his next job? Sure, but Lickliter had a hundred issues, and that was before he even walked into a basketball practice.

I was pretty young at the time, so I wasn't very knowledgeable about coaching hires at that point. I'm going off studying basketball since then and Lickliter's failures after Butler. All McCollum does is win. And if you listen to what his peers have to say, it's impressive.

lol …pot calling kettle black…
Oh I know we have plenty. But Iowa takes it to another level. I watched one Iowa game this year and thought they’d all transfer the next day because Fran went all-white the entire time I watched. More than 10-15 minutes in the 2nd half. You guys won but I found it odd.
