Anyone have racist relatives?

While not overtly, and she would deny it forever, but my MIL is racist as shit. Said nothing could make her vote for Harris, and says Olympics shouldn't have allowed Snoop Dogg around as he is a thug.

You can't change these people. I totally want one of her grandchildren to marry a latino or black.
Racist or prejudice?

For me racism is the belief as one race being superior than a different race. Where prejudice is you don’t like some one/thing/idea for any variety of reasons. I think they can overlap but the racist word gets thrown out so idk what to believe anymore

I think you have to inherently have racist undertones. The whole "us vs. them" thing

Most definitely. 2 BIL’s and 1 SIL.

My paternal grandparents were also very racist.

What blows my mind is my maternal GFather who farmed rural Story County didn't have a racist bone in him. I have to concede that he referred to a certain nut as "******toes" But that was a generational thing. He welcomed folks of all ethnicity to his farm

To answer the question, I would say no. I think I certainly have some ignorant relatives with a narrow worldview and not we’ll traveled but not “racist”

Well stated. I feel like the term “racist” is used far too often. My late father was prejudiced against blacks, but never believed or stated they were somehow inferior to any other race. He was close friends with a couple-worker who’d emigrated from Uganda, and when they’d get a few beers in them I’d hear how American blacks were a lot different than African blacks (i.e. a cultural issue rather than a race issue).

Anyway, I’m certainly guilty of having prejudices and am not proud of it.

Yes, my aunt & uncle and cousins that live down in Union county Iowa. They're racist as **** and have passed it on along to my first cousin once removed as well. When she was in high school (she graduated last year) she would post racist memes that my aunt and uncle had posted. That whole side of the family is a disaster. I've basically cut off all contact over the last few years w/ them.

My cousins in Tennessee can’t say “Obama” or “Kamala” without immediately preceding it with “that f*ckin’ n*gger.”

Give you two guesses who they’re absolutely ecstatic about being sworn in again in a couple weeks.
And I bet they still swirlie your girlie ass to this day! lol

I just don't have time for these folks.

Same. My uncle is a drunk too, so he just spends all day every day drunk posting on fbook whatever racist and political things he can find in the depths of the internet. I blocked him years ago, but then my aunt and cousins started doing the same shit. I always found it concerning how many folks would like the shit they posted too. I know it's been argued on here before, and I hate to generalize but there's some small towns/counties in Iowa that are incredibly racist.

What is funny is when relatives get blocked by me and then continue to request to be friends again. Are you not capable of understanding the time frame from you racist post

Unfortunately yes. My Dad is fairly racist and so was his father and his father’s father. I had a great aunt that married a black man and the family pretty much disowned her. I had no idea she even existed until my early 20’s when her and her family showed up at a family reunion years after her father died.
They all grew up in Waterloo which in my experience is a very racist town. They were all misogynists also.

My half brother, who shares no DNA with my father is also a bigot and misogynist.

I’m trying to break the cycle so I don’t really like to expose my kids to them now that they’re in their teens. It kinda sucks, but it is what it is.

Hang in there. YOU can be better.

None that I know of, but I barely have any contact outside of immediate family. As the really olds die off, I find it hard to believe there are that many truly racist people around. The right wing extremist groups at like Charlottesville and other neo-Nazi groups that have been brought more into the mainstream in the Trump era, still aren't that significant. I suspect most of the small minded people we often think of are somewhere in the bigot, prejudiced, ignorant territory.

I have a cousin who’s married to a black man. Never passes up the chance to call his in laws “cr*cker” or “h*nky”. Racist AF. And when you confront him with it, he spews the bLaCk PeOpLe CaN’t Be RaCiSt bullshit.
